Text of European leaders' letter on Iraq

I like this letter, and I certainly support the stalwart paper's effort, but I almost feel like two words were edited from the end of this comment:

"So there."

Many Americans had been convinced by Bush opponents and some on the right that Europeans hate the U.S.

This very well be true, vis a vis 'some on the right'; including many of us here on FR. Euro-baiting is one of the most popular sports here! ;-)

But, be that as it may, the derision rising from our quarters would appear to be having some salutorious effects. The sensible folk who happen to live on the Continent seem to be beginning to pipe up against the socialists, Arabists and other assorted America-haters who have had the ascendency there for far too long.

Politically, the winds are looking like they are starting to blow our way. I'm thankful that the good guys have stood their ground, patiently awaiting this outcome. It has been apparent from the beginning that this would be the case if we simply stuck to our guns.

We probably will have a hard time giving up our enjoyable pastime, though; even if the Euro-weenies get their butts kicked and grown-ups take charge over there! LOL...

Wouldn't have happened without Donald Rumsfeld first laying down the law.

Yes, his 'Old Europe' comment was crass, undiplomatic and insulting. But it worked.

They (the weenies) have to allege that Bush was behind this letter. They have no choice . . . it's their only way to discredit it . . . .
