Debris Over California
Vanity
Posted on 02/02/2003 11:22:17 PM PST by sissyjane
I just watched the local NBC news program. They showed a video taken from Mt. Hamilton (near San Jose) of the space shuttle re-entry over the California bay area.
There was obvious debris coming off of it.I saw two distinct pieces.Obviously, I'm not an expert, but I know what I saw.It totally creeped me out.God bless ALL of our astronaughts and especially our crew of Columbia.God speed.

So they are searching for debris in California? At the speeds, angle, and height it was traveling at the time, even if something *did* fall off over California, it may not have landed until somewhere in Texas...

Oh my goodness......now you are going to bash Bush on the space shuttle. Someone shoot me now; I have had just about enough of this childish nonsense.
Bush is not perfect and certainly something was missed with the shuttle by NASA under the watch of this president. But to start a witch hunt to place blame with this administration.....while completely ignoring the blame of past ones (and no, not just Clinton).....makes you no better than the Democrats. Bush is not responsible.

TLB, I will add that Bush is a human being, not God and if you would have bothered to look into his face yesterday with his eyes at the speech you would have known he is doing all he can, but he can't control every aspect of this nation to stop all disasters....he is only one man. We would need an army of GW's to do justice to every govt. program, ensuring solid safety with all of them....and even then they would not be accident-proof.

Looks like NASA is the problem.
Don Nelson already broke the Bush story on 60 minutes tonight from what Drudge said. I stumbled on that web site by mistake. What I did not know was that the President had answered the letter. From what I see this ship was burning from the time of re-entry because of loose tiles and a cracked left wing. These people were doomed from the start.

"Don Nelson already broke the Bush story on 60 minutes tonight from what Drudge said. I stumbled on that web site by mistake." What? You stumbled on Drudge by mistake? I thought you were Drudges' biggest supporter on FR? Or did you see 60 mins?

Don's been with NASA probably since near it's inception. Yes, he's a good guy, hard worker, caring sort. I don't exactly agree with him. His proposals are unreachable, not cost effective, IMO.
I certainly agree with him regarding the management since the Challenger accident. Not too many hardware guys are in management anymore. Most are former Astronauts or come from Flight Operations. Dittemore was a flight director. Readdy is/was an Astronaut. That's the story today. They have no or LITTLE hardward experience before getting these jobs.

OH, and everything he proposed would not have prevented the accident today, IF it happened as a result of the felt (felt is rigid HARD foam)hitting leading edge of Orbiter, all his redundancy systems would have been a waste of time and money. Say, who could have saved those people from the WTC jumping from the upper floors? Where were the nets?

He did purpose that they not fly back in the summer and he was told no in Dec. That would of prevented the accident.
Since you say he is a good guy then he knew there was problems and he was right. Now we have 2 other countries involved and A nation here that wants answers. And Don is out telling this letter story. Sounds like a spy movie!
