[history]
The statement we published last week from eight European leaders in support of U.S. Iraq policy has caused much consternation, especially in France and Germany but also among American media ethicists. How delightful, and instructive.
Our sin seems to be that we assisted in exposing as fraudulent the conventional wisdom that France and Germany speak for all of Europe, and that all of Europe is now anti-American. Those ideas were always false, but they were peddled as true because they served the political purposes of those, both in Europe and America, who oppose President Bush on Iraq.

We remember when journalism schools taught students how to find a story, not ignore one because it disagrees with their political views. And yet, it really didn't take much digging to *find* this story. God Bless America

We admit to committing journalism. And if our critics want to accuse these pages of having so much clout that we can dictate policy to eight European heads of state, we will humbly accept. That pretty much says it all. Also, this ..
We've also come in for some criticism from the usual suspects in the U.S., in particular one Orville Schell, dean of something called Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism
gets my vote for one-liner of the day.

"We remember when journalism schools taught students how to find a story, not ignore one because it disagrees with their political views. His students should demand a refund."
But ... this is a very, very powerful statement. The mainstream media ignored the story of "other" European nations who agreed with the U.S., because the media agreed with France and Germany.

This makes my day. Kudos to WSJ Europe. Nobody twisted anybody's arm to get them to sign onto the declaration.
And a collective "kiss my a**" to the so-called "schools of journalism," which are really ministries of propaganda.

Nothing is so pleasing in the political realm as when the lies, smarminess and venality of those who've always had a Pass get their butts kicked as soon as that Pass is revoked.
Vain, hypocritical, self-serving France and Germany, as well as the tie-dyed dipsh*ts in this country, are milling around in shock - as the unvarnished truth is mashed into their sanctimonious snouts.

something called Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism. Chuckle! But always remember the meaning of the First Amendment--that the individual reader (or ignorer) of journalism and no other secular authority judges journalism. Journalists are entitled to emphasize their own opinions, on the editorial page or anywhere else they choose to.
'Course the First Amendment doesn't apply to broadcasting . . .
