That's how those who use the Kings' English spell tire. Sensors monitor the condition of everything on the shuttle, including the pressure of the nitrogen in the landing gear tires; 340 PSI for the main gear and 300 PSI for the nose gear.

I understand that's a spelling of "tire"....it's just a spelling that's totally out of place.

No one in the States uses "tyre". Not even regionally.
