Years ago we got some cage traps from animal control to hopefully eliminate the coons and possums that infest our neighborhood. We never caught one, but we observed daily our cats and other cats going in and cat burglaring the bait without releasing the trap. I think it was the neighborhood feline entertainment for about ten days.
Trust me. You really don't want to tangle with or even get up close to a cornered adult raccoon. You better have some good firepower or leave it a wide escape route.
