HEAVY SETBACK FOR SCHRÖDER

Posted on 02/02/2003 12:20:20 PM PST by Michael81Dus

Schröders SPD party lost two elections in German major states of Hesse and (Schröders home state) Lower Saxony. The conservative CDU party now has a comfortable majority with 41 seats of 69 in the German Federal Council - that means that Schröder cannot pass important laws without the approval of the oppositional CDU/CSU.

The SPD lost up to 15% compared to the last elections and giving the CDU nearly absolute majority in both states. The result is also interesting because Schröder made these elections with an anti-war-campaign again.

This is the first answer of the voters after September elections and has shown that the German people does not approve Schröders government. "This is the end of the SPD-Green government in Berlin!" Liberals chairman Westerwelle announced.

BTW: the representative Federal President will be a CDU member next year, too.

LOL, the Lefties of the world STILL won't figure it out, though... the US goes for the GOP heavily in November, Israel's Likud party takes far more than expected in January, and now Germany starts walking away from Schroeder's party. Maybe the population knows something they don't? Hmmmmmmmmmm.

:-)) Schröder narrowly won last year because of anti-war-sentiments and the damned disaster of floodings.
Good to see conservatives going ahead!

Sounds very familiar--something about November 2002 in the USA?

The German rats sound just like our Rats after they got tromped by President Misunderestimated.

Only a nutjob would raise taxes while making enemies with the biggest buyer of german autos and export products.

Mad dogs bite the hands that feed them too.

Auf Wiedersehen Schweinhund Schroeder!

I just can back your president´s attitude towards Schröder. Ignore him, even if that means ignoring the worlds 3rd biggest economy. Schröder is the german Clinton - and we´ll have to suffer from that shitty guys in the highest offices.

HEAVY SETBACK FOR SCHRÖDER

"YEAH BABY! That's what I'm talkin' about!"

The evil doer Shröeder getting a bit of payback from the constituency he FEARS in his own country.

A few more 'setbacks' like this and Germany could 'right itself' in the rift with Great Britain and the USA...

kudos to the perpetrators of Shröeders 'setback'.

From my military assignment time in Germany, I recall a campaign poster of the CDU/CSU that showed a cartoon image of what at first glance appeared to be a footballer, but bore the colours and letters on the jersey of the SPD.

He had such a sad and forlorn look on his face, and with both hands he turned out his pants pockets to reveal them empty save for lint and moths.

The caption read: "Socialism costs too much!" "Vote CDU/CSU!"

Perhaps it's time for an updated version to be plastered everywhere and force a vote of no confidence on the SPD/Green alliance.

We feel isolated - left alone with France.

You have my deepest sympathy.

Danke für die guten Nachrichten

What most people don’t realize is that if West Germany had been the only voting block, Schröder would not have been elected.

Schröder squeaked his victory by carrying East Germany big time.

Most West Germans were never too happy with this platform.

Correct - and eastern voters are more pacifistic and left than the west. They don´t believe in self-responisability, and the floodings along the eastern river Elbe brought Schröder much sympathy there, too. The floodings and Iraq diverted from our economy and unemployment last September.

This is akin to being an intern "left alone" with Clinton in the oval office....
Whatever you do, YOU MUST NOT drop the soap....
. . . I am only partially joking.

Can Germany yet be saved from Marxism? Let's wait and see on this one.
