The difference being that Israel will only use them in self-defense, where any other Arab country would use them in a terrorist surprise attack.

Exactly.

Name one nation/empire in the history of the world that could have stood were the US did at the end of WWII, and not tried to take over the world by force. Yes we used the bomb, yes it killed thousands of Japanese, but of course if we had invaded Japan, millions of Japanese (military and civilian) would have died, as well as thousands of allied troops.
