Conceptually, manned space exploration was a phenomenon of the 1940s-1960s. It represents the past, not the future. It's been superceded by other technical developments--the computer revolution, robotics, miniaturization.

I thought the space program was the genesis of those other technical developments --the computer revolution, robotics, miniaturization.

To say that manned space exploration was a concept of the 40's-60's ignores the fact that we have explored only a tiny part of the space immediately surrounding this planet. The scientific benefits of exploring our solar system cannot be imagined.
