ROHRABACHER: CLINTON MISLEADS PUBLIC AGAIN, THIS TIME ABOUT NASA BUDGET (1998)

Bill Clinton has cut NASA's budget in actual dollars every year he's been President, and slashed the real purchasing power by a third. In fact, this administration has cut $40 billion from NASA's outyear budget since he was first elected.

"Furthermore, there were eight Space Shuttle launches in 1992 - the last year of George Bush's Presidency - and only four this year. So in fact Bill Clinton has cut human space flight in half.

"This Administration has repeatedly ignored the importance of space to our economy and national security. "Also, in a move that will forever live in ignomy, NASA doubled the estimate of the 90 day study group tasked to determine the cost of putting a man on Mars."

Unfortunately, having worked for NASA in the past, doubling the estimate when NASA is involved is probably more accurate than not.

The 90 day study had already been inflated to account for overruns. Several contractors came in with estimates between $100B-$125B. NASA's estimate was in excess of $400B. That was a total non-starter.
