"In the words of the prophet Isaiah, "Lift your eyes and look to the heavens. Who created all these? He who brings out the starry hosts one by one and calls them each by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing."
FYI, the verse from Isaiah President Bush quoted is Isaiah 40:26 (NIV).

While my first thoughts were for the crew and their families, a thought shortly after was how GW was going to handle it. I said a short prayer for him, because everyone--and I mean everyone--who was around for the last time this happened would compare his statements to those of Reagan. That was a tough act to follow. I was thinking that yesterday, as we waited several times when the President's appearance seemed to be "pushed back."
Reagan's speech after Challenger was SO moving that, if I'm W., I demand that my words carry similar weight.
I imagine he contacted Peggy Noonan and others, and probably needed to consult his pastor in order to find a passage from the Book that would soothe the nation.
I think he got it just about right, although I can visualize a large percentage of our fellow citizens recoiling in horror from the Word. Let them twist in the cruel winds of their faithlessness...

Thanks for your reply. It's nearly unbelievable that statements like that were made.
