Iraqis Call Shuttle Disaster God's Vengeance Sat February 1, 2003 02:08 PM ET
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Immediate popular reaction in Baghdad on Saturday to the loss of the U.S. space shuttle Columbia and its seven-member crew -- including the first Israeli in space -- was that its was God's retribution on Americans. "We are happy that it broke up," government employee Abdul Jabbar al-Quraishi said.
"God wants to show that his might is greater than the Americans. They have encroached on our country. God is avenging us," he said.
Car mechanic Mohammed Jaber al-Tamini noted Israeli air force Colonel Ilan Ramon was among the dead when the shuttle broke up shortly before its return to earth.
"Israel launched an aggression on us when it raided our nuclear reactor without any reason (in 1981), now time has come and God has retaliated to their aggression," Tamini said.

Help Germany and France to see evil? Are you kidding? These two looser has-beens ARE evil. The only country Germany ever defeated IS France! French poltroons would not fight to preserve their own country, so what makes you think they would fight to preserve western civilization?

Its funny that Saddam would say that. In fact I am shocked. This event will have a stunning effect that will last a long time. When I was 8yrs old I watched the Challenger explode. I was sitting on my knees in the library. I will never forget it. It was in that moment that I learned that space exploration is something we must be willing to die for. This event is sure to bring back all those old feelings among the young people of my generation. This will inspire courage in most of us.
If there is one thing we want to see our nation, and the world, accomplish is success in Space. Seeing our hero's die, we become willing to die in their place, with them, our resolve is made strong, the path much much clearer. If the barbaric ramblings of the third world try to stand in our way, we will most likely crush them out of existence. Without a vision, a hope, civilization is lost.
Saddam Hussein's government is like a malignant Cancer that plagues the whole world. How will the people of Iraq, or Afganistan, or anywhere in the third world, even Honduras and nicaragua... ever understand the hope of civilization, freedom, and dignity, when their Political leaders are monsters, and their religious leaders are psycho cults and perverts.
There is nothing that compares to the serenity of knowing that the death and the suffering was not in vain. Knowing that there is a higher purpose, and a meaning to life. I doubt that people in Iraq understand this. Hopefully they will see the light.
They will see how stupid Saddam is and overthrow him.
It would be better if he was overthrown by his people.
Hopefully it will strengthen their resolve, and make the way clearer!

The Iraqis will pine for the days of mass executions, kidnappings and other atrocities when the moment of American thunder comes down on them this time...

Its funny that Saddam would say that Saddam isn't even mentioned in the article. He didn't say anything about it.

In complete honesty, especially because an Israeli was a member of the crew, my wife and I actually held our breath when the shuttle was launched. I guess the past and potential acts of violence conducted by members of the religion of peace have made an everlasting impact on the way we view things.
I am not contending that the tragedy was the result of sabotage, but I'm not ruling it out either.

"So which as it? God? Satan? Both working in concert? Make up your mind already!"For the record, I'm against abortion. Having said that, the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank with much loss of life long before abortion was to become legal. Linking abortion to todays tragedy is not the way to abolish the practice.

I just don't understand it. And some people around here hang out there all the time and brag about it.
Nasty.

"I just don't understand it. And some people around here hang out there all the time and brag about it."I've never logged onto the site. No point in it. All you have to do is watch Hillary or Ted or Tiny Tom on the tube to see what The Rats are all about.

It's time to take these parasitic predators out. What else can we reasonably expect from people who want to bring back the 12th century?
