I knew it wasn't going to get to me until I saw their faces. I remember the Challenger and it deeply scarred my little 11-year old psyche at the time. I still hold my breath everytime a space shuttle launches until you hear them say "go throttle up" and nothing happens. I am heartbroken this morning for these families and my deepest sympathies to Israel. We will have a partner country in mourning this time.

The whole world mourned with us last time.
This time, the media is going to make sure we know we have fewer friends and more enemies who gloat.

(We should have had newer, safer, better, more efficient ships by now, damn it.)

We will have a partner country in mourning this time. Two of them, one of the women, the payload specialist, was born and grew up in India, and was something of a heroine there. There's plenty of tears to share.
