That's usually normal. There are T5 Talon chase planes that pick up the Shuttle as soon as it re-enters.

Bogus! I heard it too and any jet would have been closer to the Earth than to the Space Shuttle. This was just a terrible accident. Tinfoil-hattery is really not appreciated at a moment like this.

Impossible to see a plane near shuttle. The shuttle was at 200,000 feet. Perhaps a piece of the shuttle was what the witness saw, or they just want their moment of "fame".
