Yahoo news has a link saying that NASA says there is no indication terrorism was involved...Looks to me like it was just some malfunction.

On another note, I was talking with a friend of mine this morning, and he (a physicist) said that he had read numerous articles over the past year about how Columbia's tiles on the bottom needed to be replaced. They never were, and now it looks like it might have caused the accident.

False... They are all inspected and replaced prior to being put back on the pad... Your friend is wrong... Physicist or not...
