Shuttle Contact LOST-No Tracking Data During RE-Entry!

Shuttle has NOT been heard from or seen on tracking radar since 0800Hrs CDT. No contact at Merrit Island tracking station, no voice comm...DEVELOPING.

I heard a report that said that telescopse in California could see pieces beginning to come off when it passed over them.

As I recently posted in another thread, I spoke last spring on a cruise vacation with a gentleman who was a high official at NASA through Apollo, who had listened to the Challenger voice tapes. The crew survived until impact with the water.

(And as I am an avid student of the space program, and have read most of what has been written, I am certain that the gentleman, who was fighting cancer at the time, was telling the truth, based on our extensive and wide ranging discussion of many other aspects of the program.)

We have no choice. The three on the space station need to come home.

I think they have a Soyuz escape pod there already. And the Russians have a rocket that can go too.

At this point, I really don't want to leave the space station unmanned. I don't think our lost astronauts would want that either. They were dedicated to space exploration and ultimately gave their lives for it. They considered it worth the risk.

My local news affiliate seems only to remember the Challenger accident and referred to today's events as the "second" tragedy for the Space Program. I was so mad, I had to turn the channel. Ignorance is rampant. Reagan looked for guidance from his predecssors, just as Bush will today.

The crew module of Challenger emerged from the fireball intact. I was attempting to find the photo on the internet, but can not locate it right now.

If debris had hit one of the wings on take off, the crew had to be concerned about that during the mission and it had to be an issue during the entire flight. Does anyone else know if the crew and ground control had been discussing this issue during the mission
