Good day, Ivan: God bless you for posting news items from Britain and Europe that our media rarely covers. As long as I am alive and have my mental acuity, I will never forget. If it is given to me to remember after death, then I will remember forever. As for forgiveness, I'll leave that to the Lord. In the here and now, I want our two great nations to bring down as many radical Islamists as possible.

We need to park ourselves right smack dab in the middle of Iraq, virtually surrounding Iran (since Afghanistan is on their east), and irritating the hell out of Saudi Arabia and Syria. To me, that's reason enough to move on Hussein (as if there weren't a whole boatload of other reasons).

So what? Is the argument about President Bush's plan for Iraq about ending terrorism?

What about the people that remember the American civil war, or those in Europe that still hold grudges after decades, or American blacks that want reparations, or those in the middle east, or the Japanese and Chinese or Koreans? When is it ok to forgive and forget? When it concerns others than Americans, I've seen many freepers that say...just get over it, it was a long time ago...or words to that effect. Should only Americans never forget or forgive, or should all people?

No, the argument is about putting weeping relatives, who have no direct knowledge of the circumstances of the case, on the witness stand in a trial of a suspected terrorist.

Never forget. Never forgive."

Luke.17:3

[3] Take heed to yourselves: *IF* thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and *IF* he repent, forgive him.

Well this guy didn't repent hence he is NOT forgiven by me. Since he escaped capital punishment, God will punish him IF he does not repent. It appears to me he is entrenched in evil and prefers it.

"I have watched my son die 100 times, every time I see videotapes of the towers falling,"
she said through tears.

As an average American who did his fair share of welling up during the
days following the event...I still probably can't fully grasp the total impact on these folks.

But I wish that someone would tell them that quite a few folks like myself feel some
stange mixture of pride and "outlasting the b@stards" whenever I see the WTC Towers
in an old movie or documentary. (e.g., the "Die Hard" movie with Bruce Willis
and Samuel L. Jackson; the "Brooklyn Bridge" documentary by Ken Burns)

I look at them and say that the evil people who knocked them down partly did it because
they come from a culture that could never muster the brains, talent or vision to
build such awesome edifices.

And when I get angry that those b@stards have denied me the chance to ever visit
those buildings (never been to NYC), I reflect on the depth of the crime...
and feel ever more resolve to see justice done...no matter how many years it will take.

I looked at the page for the first time, and it brought tears in my eyes, too. For people like him, I could think about death penalty in my country, although our constitution forbids it.

I will never forget being on one tower of WTC and I´ll never forget watching TV while the towers fell. When the second tower fell, we couldn´t believe it and hoped it was a record of the first tower falling.

"I watch my son die every time I see the twin towers on TV"

Didn't prevent CNN from showing Aaron Brown in front of the burning towers in their ads, after 'reporting' criticisms of the Bush-on-the-plane picture posted in GOP literature. Ivan: Always forgive - kill anyway, when you have to. :-)

I could see putting them on the stand once the verdict had been determined and they were trying to decide whether to put the convicted terrorist to death...

I may be mistaken, but I believe Germany has no death penalty, and if so, your comment isn't germanine.

BTW, I read about Mohammed. Know what? Unless the history's way off, somehow ...he was a terrorist.

Weeping relatives don't constitute evidence at all. As far as I am aware, they are not considered when deciding guilt or innocence. I think victim impact statements should be allowed when considering sentencing, not guilt or innocence. The judge or jury has to be made to realize that the crime (especially a brutal murder) has more that just one dead victim. It has many victims, and the person perpetrating the crime has to answer for what he did--to everyone involved. It is only fair.

Ahhh... in a perfect world, I would certainly agree with you. HOWEVER, given the severe imperfections of our justice system it is very important sometimes to counter any attempt by the defense to smear the victim's name or deliberately diminish their value as a person. Our current justice system allows a great many injustices within courtroom procedure that turn trials into a game of strategy instead of any real search for truth. (Can anyone say O.J.??)

U.S. District Judge Robert Merhige, Jr. "Lawyers are not always looking for the truth."

Defense Attorney James Neal "The adversary system is not a system calculated to produce the truth. It is calculated to produce, instead, justice in the criminal system; and justice is totally different from truth."

Professor of Law Stephen Gillers stated that it is a defense attorney's job to "encourage the jury to disbelieve what he knows to be the truth if it helps." and "Truth we finally get, the so-called courtroom truth, may be false but it is true for the purposes of our justice system."

Above quotes appear on "Ethics in America" videotape series of ethical debates and were televised on PBS. There was much, much more than I quoted here, but don't want to bore or depress anyone LOL
