U.S. troops hand over terrorist suspect to Bosnian authorities

Thu Jan 30, 7:00 AM ET

By ALMIR ARNAUT, Associated Press Writer

TUZLA, Bosnia-Herzegovina - NATO (news - web sites)-led troops on Thursday transferred a Bosnian Muslim, who had been held at their base since October as a terrorist suspect, to the local authorities in Bosnia.

Sabahudin Fijuljanin, 41, was detained by U.S. troops based in Tuzla first for allegedly spying on their base and possession of weapons, which is illegal in Bosnia. After more than a month, they said they also had information Fijuljanin had links to the al-Qaida terrorist network.

Fijuljanin never admitted he had those links, and the troops serving in the NATO-led peacekeeping force never presented any evidence and never laid charges against him.

His extended detention prompted human rights groups, including Amnesty International, to accuse the force of violating Fijuljanin's rights by keeping him in custody without charge.

Earlier this month, the Human Rights Chamber — Bosnia's top court in charge of human rights — ordered the Bosnian presidency to request Fijuljanin's handover to local authorities.

Early Thursday, Fijuljanin was seen on the back seat of a local police car driving out of Eagle Base in Tuzla. Followed by a number of other police vehicles, he was driven to a police station in nearby Srebrenik, some 30 kilometers (20 miles) north of Tuzla.

Maj. Shawn Mell, a spokesman for peacekeepers, said they had reached a point in their investigation "that can accommodate a transfer of Fijuljanin to the (Bosnian Muslim-Croat) federation Ministry of the Interior."

Fijuljanin's lawyer, Osman Mulahalilovic told The Associated Press the handover was "a triumph of the rule of law" and protection of human rights in Bosnia.

"I expect a hearing in the police station and an eventual charge for illegal possession of weapons or his immediate release," the lawyer said. Fijuljanin voluntarily handed over his anti-tank weapon a few days prior to his arrest.

Fijuljanin has been a member of a closed community near Srebrenik, which lives fairly isolated and practices a strict Islamic life style, unusual for the liberal Bosnian Muslim society.

Fijuljanin who hails from the Yugoslav region of Sandzak, has lived for years in Bosnia where he is married and has four children. His Bosnian citizenship is being investigated, since other passports, including his Yugoslav one, were found in his home during the investigation.

At present, about 12,000 international troops are serving in the peacekeeping mission in Bosnia. NATO deployed its troops here to keep the peace that ended the 1992-1995 Bosnian war.

Lets not give the imbecile to much credit. The last thing I remember was that Hoplite got a little sensitive about his age i.e. the crapping in his adult diapers etc. Even though it was amusing I believe it was a valuable lesson on perception and how it can work to one sides advantage. Then I commented on his low self esteem which evident in his consistent desire to fight and dominate everyone here on FR. A very anal individual with a personality that tends to "split". Truly a parrot with a fools brain that has nothing else to do?

Wonders Hoplite is paying attention to those that oppose or questions this goof's point of view which is as you know "the official story"? By no means has he alienated myself or you. It is this goof that is alone with his tunneled vision point of view and has no course but to agitate in order to get attention.

Anyway have been very busy these days with not very much time for FR.

P.S. Vooch I bet Hoplite is short which may explain his pissed off disposition towards the world. Probably had to many sisters that used to dress him up like Pollyanna.

You think he has a chicken chest which explains his "beating up" of others on here?

Hoplite brings nothing to the table outside of his thinly vailed hidden agenda pushing the official State Department position and his predictable volley of personal insults when cornered. He's never been to the area and any of his research is nothing more than retreads of CNN or State Department misinformation. The sooner all of us choose to ignore him, the sooner he'll go away.

The guy is focused on destruction of others. He has no heart but just a shallow goal. Hoplite should take a hike because he adds nothing which is very obvious. Beating up on Wonders shows no class but she can take care of her self. Still think that the little dude was dressed up in drag by his sisters. Anyone would be pissed off......

This is the right direction.

Your so pathetic in trying to convince everyone here on FR that you are intelligent while at the same time trying to hack people to pieces with the crap that you post. You have become the most transparent individual on FR which seems to be acknowledged by everyone that you have chased around trying to convince they are wrong. Who the fuck out their can say you are right? Don't remember seeing a list anywhere of those supporters.

So why don't you take the hint and just evaporate. After all you don't contribute anything but another versions of the news. f.o.a.DIE

hahaha! That is funny as I "was" briefly dating a girl who was a freak, she was bi and was the "dominant" in her fem-fem relationships! AAAA! That is funny, was she a freak, but a real cutey though! Man, some of the girls I attract!

Hoplite is the good humour man. Makes you think why he chose HOPLITE in the loafers.

With all said above being true, ignoring Hoplite (the official St. Dept. line) is a sign of frustration and losing control on our (the truth) side.
I think, leaving the insults out, Hoplite keeps us as sharp as ever! The winner is, of course, the FR audience that can draw conclusions themselves.
I would hate to see you all boycott him.

Cheers!

Td,

I agree that Hoplite makes as a good measuring stick (not much else though) as going beyond the official line seems to be proof of paranoia/conspiracy freak which makes him quite antsy and rude. We have history on our side. Before I forget, I hope you all saw ABRIT's outburst and Hoplite's slience. A moment of clarity? Still, it would be no fun if there were a boycott or our opposite numbers were banned.

Back in '98 I had a friend with whom I used to have arguments over Kosovo before she went to be a journalist for a large agency. Two years later we met again and she was in agreement with almost everything I said, which was extremely boring.

On a slightly different tack, have any of you noticed that the BBC now refers to 'hundreds killed' during the war in Kosovo. I wonder if they've told the ICTY and their statistics expert, Dr. Balls yet? Very slippery indeed. The old chesnut of 200k dead is still regularly bandied about, and of course nothing about the Bosnia >60k systematic rapes... Speaking of which, there is that convenient dissapearance of a hard drive full of the testimonies of rape victims the other day in Kosovo...

Another tidbit. Disturbed to learn that Wesley Clarke's roots (Minsk), are up the road from my own and that there has been a long line of rabbis in the family. Apparently both his 'maternal grandparents' were Jewish, which most likely means that his granddad didn't follow the rules. It seems a clear case of:

Roses are red,
Violets are bluish,
If it wasn't for Christmas,
We'd all be Jewish

It's really not worth getting so worked up about it all. As Td pointed out, he provides us with a 'service' which is ultimately to the benefit of everyone who passes through. You have to admit though, Hoplite is very guarded about details of himself...

Turn the other cheek (the upper one) and keep the quality up. I'm sure your posts are appreciated by the vast majority!

I have no problem with people taking an opposite view than me and engaging in a good old fashioned give and take argument. My brother and I have mastered the art of arguing. Often we'll find each other on opposite sides of an issue. We then proceed to dig in and passionately defend our own viewpoints.

However, we never stop listening to each other and give each other credit when a good point is brought up. Much more often than not, one of us will eventually acknowledge that the other is either completely right or is bringing up valid points. In the mean time we've both managed to learn something in the process.

I consider this a valid dialog and I welcome any voices that may be in opposition to my views if they are capable of listening and acknowledging valid points that they may not have thought of before.

Kosta50 and Tropoljac used to engage in such arguments and I truly enjoyed following their discussions.

Hoplite has proven he has no such skills. I stand by my position that he's virtually useless to this forum.

To make Hoplite go away , ask him why Milosevic has and continues to win at the 'tribunal' in the Hague.

The false 'testimony' was shown by Milosevic to be so blatant, the media walked away at the 3rd 'witness' but continues to report through surrogates. After a year of this they have not laid a glove on him.

And Hoplite continues to serve up his 'crap'. Despite the stacked 'kangaroo' court, truth is winning out in the Hague. Milosevic and Serbia has won and Hoplite knows it. I'll bet he can't wait to be reassigned.

Hoplite is useful in that he is a continued reminder of the utter bankruptcy of the HumWarror POV.

Hoplite is the last pro-Clinton, pro-KLA, pro-Bosnian jihadist left of FR. Hoplite reminds us with every post of his just how harmful the HumWarrior crowd is/was.

Kudos to Hoplite and his lonely struggle to defend KLA & Bosnian jihadists, at least he is consistent

Its not about turning the other cheek. Hoplite is an antagonist with the only objective of trying to demoralize through his insults and the revolving stupid predictable game he plays. What does an individual do when they are demoralized personally by an objectively focused individual like Hoplite who is good at what he does?

You have a choice to either not contribute to FR so much in order to ovoid the unpleasantness because of Hoplite's BS (which is what he wants because you are a threat to the offical story) or to see this entity for what it is and oppose what hoplite is really trying to accomplish, which has nothing to do with learning the truth but to simply turn you off. Am I making sense here?

Wonders said it herself to Hoplite in one of her posts that she was avoiding the strings Hoplite was on. My point made? Its not hard to see and most motives are usually staring you right in the face because they are very simple in nature. Hoplite seems to have this continuous unpleasant theme.

Wonders is a very credible poster and has a the ability like many on FR to be objective and open minded. I like this in an individual. Smokegenerator even has this ability and is light years ahead of Hoplite. Hoplite does not.

What purpose does it serve in dealing with an insulting brick wall? Just a waste of time. Hoplite does not add to FR he pulls it down. He tried to do this with me and seeing it for what it is I decided to have some fun with the boy . He has done this to others and most recently Wonders. That is why I decided to write this post because I will not stand for righteous people no matter what point of view being manipulated/demoralized by a negative influence like Hoplite. The guy is an objective orientated individual who does not care about the truth.

The guy is a goof and if you choose to fall for his game you have lost it at the start because he does not care about what you have to contribute but only on how to discredit what you have to say if it happens to fall contrary to what he supports. What’s one of his lines that sucks you in "Prove it to me" followed by an insult just to get you heated up to say more so he can condescend to you even more. I don't like being played with.

Hoplite is right and everyone is wrong folks so let the goof be right in his own little world and don't get sucked into his stupid game. If you choose to converse with him that is your waste of time. He avoids me because I see him for what he is. I'm sure Hoplite is enjoying all the attention and maybe that’s the other motive....

I enjoyed Trop's posts. Why did he get banned? His posts were very mild compared to Supercooldude's or ABrit's racist outbrurst.

Hoplite is a counter-balance. It is good to have an opposing opinion. I like Hoplite's posts, although we rarely see eye to eye.

When you have a conversation with a stone wall what is the end result? It does not keep you sharp but wondering what the hell you are doing.
