I've purchased TurboTax also, but this info appeared in Jerry Pournelle's column in Byte the day I bought it. I just took it back unopened. First time in many, many years that I won't be using TurboTax.

I think you can option to not install the safecast too. I think it is optional from talking to people who have used it.

Yes you can uninstall SafeCast, but then your TurboTax will no longer operate. Suggestion: Don't uninstall it until you've finished your return and any future audits that the IRS may request.
