As I understand it and have heard it discussed, the law in California, as instructed to a jury, is that if you tell ONE LIE everything else you say can be considered a lie.

Does that apply to prosecution witnesses as well?

Yes, it applies to all witnesses.

I am not speaking of California law, I am speaking of general evidentiary rules. These rules are well-entrenched. California shares many of these rules with the other states, and is not, to my knowledge, particularly different on issues such as these.
