Okay, so "gang colors" are also "okay" now.

This is just stupid. Schools ought to just say "you're here to learn. If you want to make silly political statements do that on your own time and place."

The long slide into anarchy takes another couple of feet.

Really!! How dare they wear something that the racist NAALCP has deemed offensive. And can you imagine some students not willing to accept the regurgitated pablum of revisionist history these 'schools' pass off as truth? I'm with you Illbay. I think they should all be forced to go worship at the tyrant's shrine in Washington as punishment. You getting up a bus to go or shall I? LOL!!

Tell me son, if they're not able to make a political statement until a certain age, and just 'learn' as you say, by the time they are of acceptable age to you, won't the only political statements they make be in line with the national government? Ahhh, but that's what you'd want now isn't it? I don't remember the Constitution stating there was an age limitation on freedom of speech. Of course I don't remember the Constitution covering federally funded schools now either, do you? Maybe you're one of those folks like I've got at work that told me flat out yesterday the Constitution doesn't apply today. It's outdated. According to them we should let Daddy government take care of us, supply us with all our needs. Well they have a place for people like that. It's called Europe

". Schools ought to just say "you're here to learn. If you want to make silly political statements do that on your own time and place.""

When is the last time you had a child in public school?

At least 50% of the teachers at my son's high school make liberal leftist statements each week. Its only through this site and my views that he knows truth, the other kids in the class all shake their heads in agreement, like the good sheep they are.

The Japanese teacher at my son's elementary school told the class that it was wrong for the US to have bombed Hiroshima.

The most important thing schools can teach our kids is how to be responsible citizens. That means teaching them to *take* political stands, and teaching them to stand by them. Encouraging students to investigate issues, reach conclusions about them, and debate those conclusions in the marketplace of ideas.

Any education that discourages independent thought and expression is merely indoctrination. I don't like liberal indoctrination, but I would be just as angry if schools forced students to parrot conservative positions. My kids are conservatives because I have encouraged them to investigate the whole political spectrum. My kids are into technology and science because I encourage them to question science and technology, and challenge the accepted beliefs.

Neither controversy nor debate are dirty words. They should be an essential part of the education process.
