A Few Of FR's Finest....Every Day....01-29-03...."snippy_about_it: The Exclusive Interview"

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

snippy_about_it
Freeper since November 25, 2000

snippy_about_it became a prospective personal conquest as I began hearing more and more about her through my media resources. One thing that really gets my britches in a knot is an opinionated, head-strong female. I mean, really…can you imagine anything more annoying? After camping outside her domicile for what seemed like an eternity, I finally caught up with her as she came outside to check her mail. I'd like to believe that getting my hand slammed in the mailbox was an accident on her part, but I really can't be sure. Anyway, my personal assistant graciously doubled as my typist so that I could bring you:

snippy_about_it: The Exclusive National Inquisition Interview

dansangel: Just what prompted you to begin publishing your abrasive opinions on the Internet?

snippy_about_it: During the presidential campaign I was so frustrated I thought, There must be someplace on the Internet where I can find conservative news. I searched the web, read a few articles and I came across the name freerepublic.com and it was "home sweet home." We did not have FOXNEWS available on our cable yet, so FR was a welcome addition to our home. Of course about two months after finding FR, our cable started carrying FOX and life was wonderful. When my TV is on, it's on FOXNEWS.
dansangel: OK, you can stop plugging the competition. How did your name become a household word?

snippy_about_it: Most can figure out that I chose my screen name based on the conversation between Dubya and algore the night of the election when al conceded and then changed his mind. He called Dubya, who wasn't pleased, and al said to George, "well, you don't have to get snippy about it!" I loved it and as a bonus, it says so much about my personality, trust me

dansangel: No argument there, sister. How would you describe yourself?

snippy_about_it: I'm Irish, female, younger than some and older than most. A civil servant who actually works hard and contributes to good works.

I was raised to know the love of God, country and hard work. My mother was born in New York, my father in West Virginia (boy am I confused).

dansangel: Whatever you say. Tell us about your family.

snippy_about_it:: My father left high school early like many in his day and joined the Army in W.W.II, became a sergeant and retired medically after almost 7 years from what at the time the military doctors thought was TB but they never could confirm it. He lived a good life and we buried him in Arlington National Cemetery last year. What a humbling and moving experience being at Arlington is.

snippy_about_it's father's memorial service at Arlington National Cemetery

dansangel: And your mother?

snippy_about_it: My mother joined the Navy during W.W.II, took a troop train from NY to SF and was one of the first to be allowed to serve off the mainland and served in Hawaii. She has some really wonderful stories to tell as a young, good looking woman in the Navy in those days. She was an aviation mate and would work on the planes, taxi them in and out and fasten the pilot into his parachute. The planes took off from the islands in those days as we were short on ships. My mother is where I get my conservative values from.

dansangel: How about a significant other? Or are you too strong-willed for men to deal with?

snippy_about_it: I've been married longer than I was single to one wonderful man. I am an avid reader of history, love dogs and wish I lived in the south for the hospitality, way of life and warmer weather.

I can be quick tempered (did I say I come from Irish), generous, not as forgiving as I should be if I'm crossed and I soak up knowledge like a sponge having been raised on reading.

dansangel: Not the easiest to get along with….tell us more.

snippy_about_it: I own firearms. A few of the books I have on my bookshelf are Jihad in America, Blackhawk Down, Setting the World Ablaze, The Discovery and Conquest of Mexico, Jefferson Davis-American, See No Evil, Invasion, Paul Revere's Ride, various books by C.S. Lewis, JRR Tolkein (a gift), and books on dogs. My bible is on the nightstand.

dansangel: Seems like everyone I interview lately is one of those Vast Right Wing Conspiracy types….

snippy_about_it: I am against illegal immigration, for strict and controlled legal immigration, against allowing non citizens to join our military, refuse to patronize Hollywood and their brand of entertainment, and yes, even though I work for the government and maybe because of it, I am for less government.

dansangel: Yep, do I know how to pick 'em, or what….

snippy_about_it: : I am the only conservative child of my parents, my siblings are raging liberals despite having been in the Air Force in their younger days. I don't live near any of them which makes my life easier. :)

dansangel: Thank goodness you came up for air….now, can I get a word in edgewise? Are you one of those that hangs out on that whacko, right-wing den of brainwashing, Free Republic?

snippy_about_it: I visit and support the USO Canteen, and the Pray for Bush threads, love the live threads and enjoy being on every ping list that I am on. I sit here and read as much as I can on FR most of the evening and unfortunately for some I check in some mornings before I've had enough coffee and I dare say I am not as pleasant as I should or would like to be at times. I suppose a good 30% of the time I am snippy but trust me, I really am a nice person.

dansangel: If you say so….

snippy_about_it: I call and write politicians when I need to, sign petitions and occasionally freep polls.

That's about it without writing a book. Hope it tells my fellow freepers something about me.

dansangel: So there you have it, my National Inquisition sheeple….er, uh, fans.

Please join me in giving another deserving FReeper a warm welcome to FR's Finest...
Today that Finest is

2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up.
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

Doug from Upland's son-in-law, Josh, recently deployed once again. Add his name to the prayer list.

Salute to Josh and Mrs. Josh as she too serves this great country as a Navy wife.

Thank-you for the update. Consider it done!

Salute to Josh and Mrs. Josh as she too serves this great country as a Navy wife.

Agreed. The families deserve every bit as much support as those who are deployed!

Thanks, Dave. I have added Josh to my military prayer list.

Just stopping in for a minute to drop off this poem I found on a military support website. It touched me, and made me think of your Eric, OhioWFan.

The Kid has Gone to the Colors

The kid has gone to the Colors
And we don't know what to say;
The kid we have loved and cuddled
Stepped out for the flag to-day.
We thought him a child, a baby
With never a care at all,
But his country called him man-size
And the kid heard the call.

He paused to watch the recruiting,
Where, fired by fife and drum,
He bowed his head to Old Glory
And thought that it whispered:"Come!"
The kid, not being a slacker,
Stood forth with patriot-joy
To add his name to the roster,
And God, we're proud of the boy!

The kid has gone to the Colors
It seems but a little while
Since he drilled a school-boy army
In a truly martial style.
But now he's a man, a Sailor,
And we lend him a listening ear,
For his heart is a heart all loyal,
Unscourged by the curse of fear.

His dad, when he told him, shuddered,
His mother-God bless her!-cried;
Yet, blest with a mother-nature,
She wept with a mother-pride.
But he whose old shoulders straightened
Was Grandad-for memory ran
To years when he, too, a youngster,
Was changed by the Flag to a man!

Just saw Bush do his speech in MI.

Here the best parts:

So I call upon the world to come together and insist that this dangerous man disarm. But should they choose not to continue to pressure Saddam, and should he continue to defy the world, for the sake of our peace, for the sake of the security, this country will lead a coalition of other willing nations and we will disarm Saddam Hussein. If need be, if war is brought upon us like I said last night, I want to assure you, particularly those who wear the uniform and those who have a loved one in the military, we will commit the full force and might of the United States military. And for the name of peace, we will prevail. (Applause.)

We will free people. This great, powerful nation is motivated not by power for power's sake, but because of our values. If everybody matters, if every life counts, then we should hope everybody has the great God's gift of freedom. We go into Iraq to disarm the country. We will also go in to make sure that those who are hungry are fed, those who need health care will have health care, those youngsters who need education will get education. But most of all, we will uphold our values. And the biggest value we hold dear is the value of freedom. (Applause.) As I said last night, freedom and liberty, they are not America's gifts to the world. They are God's gift to humanity. We hold that thought dear to our hearts.

This is a great nation. America is a strong nation. America is a nation full of people who are compassionate. America is a nation that is willing to serve causes greater than ourselves. There's no question we face challenges ahead of us -- challenges at home, challenges abroad. But as I said last night, history has called the right nation into action. History has called the United States into action, and we will not let history down.
