I believe appeasement is 'knowingly ignoring a threat'. This is occurring as we attack Iraq instead of Saudi Arabia. In fact, SA is benefitting from this war. We know they are. We also know that they know that Bin Laden is there, in Mecca, hiding, waiting, planning.

Good to see you back.
Aren't we blessed we didn't hear a "Neville Chamberlain" speech last night?

Aren't we blessed we didn't hear a "Neville Chamberlain" speech last night? You're so right. I thought the speech was great. I especially like the part about a national push for fuel cell vehicles. Clinton talked a lot about it, but did nothing. This ought to shut up those fools that say "its all about the oil!"

I believe appeasement is 'knowingly ignoring a threat'. This is occurring as we attack Iraq instead of Saudi Arabia. There is a difference between ignoring a threat and prioritizing a threat. Right now, due the threat of biological weapons attack originating from Iraq (which the president touched upon last night), they are the priority. We have to deal with him before he gains a nuclear capability to hide behind.
During the second world war Churchill said, "No one has been a more consistent opponent of Communism than I have for the last twenty-five years. But all this fades away before the spectacle which is now unfolding. We shall give whatever help we can to Russia and the Russian people."
Did he believe that the Soviet Union was no longer a long term threat? No. He simply understood that threats have to prioritzed, and that sometimes you have to make temporary alliances to deal with the biggest ones. I believe Bush understands this.
If you do not believe Iraq is a threat, ask yourself what happened to the 30,000 scientists the the former Soviet Union employed in biological weapons research and development. There is a great deal of information available on the subject. But the best I've read lately is a book called "Germs" published by Simon & Schuuster. Read it. You'll understand.

Where ya you been Troop...I've been around, here and at LP (doing battle with tin-foil hatters). I've also been reading and researching for future quotes posts. Unfortunately there are only so many hours in the day. I've not been able to develope the talent of reading books and posting at the same time.
One of the things I've been doing is researching and gleaning quotes from Reagan's old speeches and papers - going back to his days as governor of California. I should be ready to post them in a month or two, depending on how much reading I get done.
I'm striving for quality as much as quantity. But I'm glad to hear you missed me ;-]

You can put me on your ping list. These quotes are good stuff.
Anyway, the war is here. It started HERE, 09/11/01.
We didn't start it, but we damn well better finish it.
No truce with evil. No mercy to the evildoers.

Susan Sarandon reached the pinacle of her life when she played "Dammit Janet", in the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Since then, she has gone down hill fast. Therefore, you should expect that she would eventually go off the deep end and think that she actually had some intelligence and further, think that anyone outside of Hollyweird really cared what she thinks.

[E]very lesson in history tells us that the greater risk lies in appeasement, and this is the specter our well-meaning liberal friends refuse to facethat their policy of accommodation is appeasement, and it gives no choice between peace and war, only between fight and surrender. If we continue to accommodate, continue to back and retreat, eventually we have to face the final demandthe ultimatum. And what then? Ronald Reagan.
