Frank's showed less than stellar leadership when he stayed in Tampa instead of being on the ground in the theatre of operations. He could have run the operation from a number of foreign countries, instead he chose to remain in the U.S. while he had soldiers on the ground, engaged in combat in a foreign country. Troops don't forget such events and reputations don't recover from them.

I disagree. He had SpecOps on the ground in Afghan. His SpecOps Command is at MacDill EXACTLY an arms length from where he was. The SpecOps cdrs weren't on the ground either. Those special warriors didn't need to be worrying about protecting some brass hat.

They also had, initially, an operation brigade from 10th Mtn? in Uzbekistan? Now they have a piece of a division chasing bandits in the mountains. There was never a point at which the bulk of Franks forces were forward.

He did exactly the right thing, imho.
