The Washington Post ^ | January 25, 2003 | Edward Walsh

Posted on 01/25/2003 9:47:27 AM PST by dagnabbit

Congressional sources said the NSEERS funding cutoff was included in the amendment at the request of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.). James Manley, a Kennedy spokesman, said the amendment "cuts funding until Congress has the information it needs to assess whether this is the most effective use of tax dollars in the war on terrorism."

I was born in the same place as those Kennedy's and have suffered almost irreprepable harm, because senior managment at large southern companies just assumed that I was like them.

I missed many promotions because of it, and am looking for a thread to discuss reparations for Bostonians that have suffered discrimination based on city of origin.

The Republicans should immediately bring forward a bill to reinstate it.

A former Mass resident, I pulled my truck into a hunting store in Pinedale, Wyoming while on vacation. The proprietor sneered "Massachusetts, huh? You like those Kennedys?"

I had to convince him I was the sole Republican in the state before he'd sell me anything.

Teddy Kennedy is fearful that some of his closest associates in the Marxist wing of the IRA will get caught coming to pick up their Howitzers and nuclear hand-grenades.

This guy ought to be locked up on that boat with Padilla until the end of the war.

Gee -- That $8-9 billion "education" increase amd giddy photo-op starring both a smiling Kennedy and President Bush really paid off big time, eh?

Advice to Dubya: The next time you see Teddy Boy in the locker room, don't bend over for the soap.

Kennedy a public catholic? How is it that most of the abuse by priests took place in MA, yet neither Kennedy nor Kerry noticed? Difficult for me to believe that no parent of an abused son didn't try to get help. Could it be that is how Kennedy managed to have his first marriage annulled after 20+ years of marriage, by not crossing the Cardinals? IMO, he and Kerry are poor excuses for Catholics.

Does that mean that Kennedy will take responsibility for any terrorist attacks that may occur, while he is "studying" the problem?

What I see -- and what was stated recently, but dropped -- is that the Democrats are very deliberately implementing a strategy to block actions that would make us safer, protect us from terrorism, continue to attack President Bush on homeland security and then if or rather when another terrorist attack occurs, blame President Bush. That is their despicable strategy for 2004. The traitors.

NO. I can and will blame GWB. He can sign an executive order to get the National Guard on our borders and to deploy other forces. But he hasn't, why?

Your frustration is shared. Our borders must be better protected.

That said, the Armed Forces (including the National Guard) are not the right assets. They already have missions and are not sitting around waiting for something to do.

The National Guard is a particularly poor candidate for this type of service. It is not a federal asset. The National Guard is the organized portion of the states' militias and commanded by each state's governor, not the president.

The National Guard units are further structured around integration with the regular armed forces for call-up during times of crises. This federal call-up is only for a limited duration.

What is more appropriate is using the assets whose mission is protection of our borders. Namely; Coast Guard, Customs, Border Patrol, INS, etc. And GWB is doing something about that. It's called the Homeland Security Department.

So instead of trying to waste our armed forces with totally inappropriate tasking, we should climb on our congress-critters' backs and whip them into taking the shackles off these appropriate organizations.

"And then, of course, there's Senator Edward Kennedy. And the folks at the Crawford Coffee Shop would be somewhat shocked when I told them I actually like the fellow. He is a fabulous United States senator."
