Interesting stuff, and the lack of importance that has been attached to it is shown by the lack of replies to this post. It certainly dispels the belief that Castro and Cuba are on their last legs. Once again, it looks like our intelligence agencies have dropped the ball, but they only go where they're ordered. Bush had better get a grip on this situation, fast.

The Cuban regime is extending its influence by sending thousands of government employees - among the health workers and sports trainers are intelligence officers - to Venezuela for extended periods. Many of the leaders of the brown-shirt militia groups are Cubans, as reported by Venezuelans who heard them speak with the Cuban accent while commanding mob attacks.
The "Circulos Bolivarianos" mob attacks are modeled after the Cuban state-sponsored "Brigadas de Respuesta Rápida" mob attacks. Even the casual observer can tell that Castro has trained most of the goons running the streets, intimidating and killing Chavez' opponents.

It would appear that the movie stars have done their job well in portraying Castro as a harmless, old guy who wants only the best for his suffering compatriots.
If the US were to do anything overt to influence the Venezuelan situation, the left in this country would erupt.
It can't be ignored for too long, though. Maybe it isn't being ignored, I hope.
