Perhaps, but the attack on Roe v. Wade is about the most idiotic thing the GOP can do. What better way to alienate most of the electorate?

Reproductive choice is not just an ethics debate. The case was in part decided in order to cleanse this country of Alleyway butchers, bloody coat hangers, and other barbaric practices. The only thing that will happen when we ban abortion is that we will create a thriving black market for RU-486. It is hard to see how that would be better then what we have now, and easy to see how attacking the key womens' issue will cost us in moving every other item we care about. Is this just the next and latest loser installment on our ongoing "War on Drugs"?

Some of the Christian Right needs to get out more. We don't live in Shangri-La; we live in a world that is far from perfect. We all hope to make things better; but, we should act from reason, rather than a knee-jerk emotion. Perhaps we can place some reasonable safeguards around the process, and we should certainly make sure that we are not doing anything to reward or encourage abortions, but, we should stop short of encouraging a return to the insanity we had before Roe V. Wade.

Your thinking is out of date. The old-line GOP keeps insisting GOP support for abortion is crucial, otherwise we'll lose the electorate - especially womens votes. It's not happening that way.

We just had an election cycle when "hard line" pro-life GOP candidates trounced "Emily's list." Opinion polls are showing a shift in the public attitude, with abortion restrictions becoming the majority opinion.

Back alleys and coat-hangers had great effect when people were talking about an unseen "cellular mass." Now we have sophisticated pre-natal imaging, technology to keep children alive when delivered earlier and earlier, and surgery upon children still in the womb. The pro-life position is winning the image war against the pro-aborts, and all the indicators point to a continuation of the same.

It's time for the pro-aborts in the GOP to find another argument than practical politics, because it's becoming clear the pro-abortion position is becoming a liability rather than an asset.

It's hard to act from reason when certain of the relevant facts are being deliberately surpressed. See my previous post.

I'm for a full and open discussion of the issue, not verbal diatribes from known liars like Morford and The New York Times.
