On the Thread page, on the right hand side, you will see a list ot topics something like this:
My Forums Campaign 2002
General Interest
News/Activism
Religion
RLC Liberty Caucus
The Smokey Backroom
VetsCoR
Each one is it's seperate forum, including a news forum (the main forum). They all work individually (search, etc). So if your interested in Religion, you might want to see what articles are posted there. Just click on that link and you will see all the 'Religion' type articles.
John subgrouped all the threads for speed and organization. The Smokeybackroom is for heated topics and threads that might be a little too intense for the regular forum.

"Suggesting illegal actions, threatening officials, posting falsehoods, deliberately trying to besmirch FR, and the like should get you banned. "And I would agree that would be a valid reason to remove a post and\or comment and maybe receive a warning. "I have seldom (if ever) seen a thread or a post pulled because of someone's opinion"
I have to disagree with you on that point. I have seen peoples post pulled for that reason and on more than one occasion and some of the subsequently banned.

Look up in the right hand corner of the Latest Post page and you'll see the following list. That is a list of the different forums...... each is unique or seperate from the others.... The only think that I'm aware of that crosses forums is a Ping to a poster.... Each of the Forums has it's own "latest post" page and "thread page"...... Most of the people follow the "News/Activism" Forum which is what you are on right now.
Here are the other Forums..... (click on each one and see what you get, but remember to get back here you'll have to click on "news/activism")....

The Laci thread is news. Other similar threads have degenerated into personal flame wars and attacks and had have had to be moved. As long as you abide by the general rules, "no personal attacks", etc, you will be fine. Here's the guidelines, the link is on the home page.
Posting Guidelines
Broadly stated, the goals of this site are to further conservatism, expose political corruption, and recover a truly constitutional form of government. If these are not your goals, you may find another discussion site more suitable. Free Republic expects users to follow a few simple posting guidelines (described below) and by posting to the forum you and others agree to abide by them. While Free Republic is not edited or censored, it does reserve the right to remove any postings that are considered inappropriate. Examples of inappropriate posts are those that are off-subject or contain advertising, pornography, obscene material, racist material, Nazi (or other hate group) material, materials promoting violence, threats or illegal acts, etc.
These guidelines are intended to help maintain a useful amount of order in a large site like this and to promote better posting. They may be revised without notice. Users of Free Republic should also understand that this is a privately owned, not-for-profit site and that they are guests here. The owner reserves the right to revoke posting privileges and, when necessary, to permanently ban individuals.
- Do lead by example - Nothing improves a forum more than posters who reason sharply, write well, and have some perspective about it all. Be one of them.
- Do preview - Preview twice, post once. And, ahem, close your HTML tags before you hit the reply button. (More on that below.)
- Do keep it clean - A bruise or two between Freepers is tolerable, but refrain from abusive attacks, engaging in senseless flame wars, and using profane language. Considering the range of topics we discuss, it's hard to be a family site, but that's what we aim for when at all possible.
- Do "take it to the Alley" - The Alley is a public chat room. A link to it is provided on the latest posts page. Invite people there if you want to talk things over or settle a score, so to speak, off site.
- Do use common sense - If you read a post that sounds too good or strange to be true, it probably is.
- Do stay on topic - If you are going to post an article, make sure you are placing it in the correct topic area.
- Do include the original title - When you post an article, be sure to include the original title where appropriate. This helps users find the article and lessens the chance of a double post.
- Do keep "vanity" posts to a minimum - Free Republic is primarily a place to discuss news, articles, and editorials. Vanity posts, creations of the poster him or herself, should meet a high standard of quality before one is even considered worthy of posting. Often a relevant current thread or general announcement, catch-all thread is a much better choice for a brief question or comment.
- Don't jump threads - If you get involved in an argument in one thread, it's considered poor manners to restart the previous argument in the middle of an unrelated thread.
- Don't spam - Post your message once. If you are not sure if it has posted, check the latest posts page.
- Don't violate poster privacy - Don't reveal online another poster's phone number, address, or other information that the person hasn't already made public for everyone on Free Republic. If you are asked for a friend's email address, the best advice usually is to forward the request to the friend. He or she can then decide whether to respond.
- Don't play games - Don't represent yourself as another person, create or use another screen name to avoid a revocation of posting privileges, misrepresent the site or your role in it, and don't misattribute a contribution you've made. (Parody exceptions would apply to the latter, of course, but it should be clear what you are doing.)
- Don't be a whiner - If you really, really find Free Republic not to your liking, let the webmaster know directly

I'm retired too. But I couldn't afford to retire in Carmel.
Good for you. And aren't free rides fun?
To: 1rudeboy
you don't unless you email jimrob or start a thread like this after the one in question is pulled......this one will most likely get pulled as well after everyone currently on it gets a couple of converstions going....then we'll start a "Why did the thread about the Thread that got pulled get pulled"
lol

I for one appreciate the hard work done by the staff here. They diligently keep out crap from spammers and trouble-makers, etc.
"News/Activism" is a category. I don't know the criteria, but if it's a news item that's a week old at least, it should be reclassified. That way "Latest Posts" stays fresh.
The search engine here is good and it's easy to browse around for other posts you might be interested. You, is_is, are acting like someone who thinks microwave popcorn doesn't cook fast enough.
And if you don't like the way the site works, then don't click on it. If you have suggestions, send an e-mail to the staff. Whining on a thread is unbecoming and childish.
If you, or ANYONE, have questions as to what "moving to chat" meant, or what a ZOT is, then ask. If you have been here for "ages" as you have claimed and have just now gotten around to asking what these things mean, then that's your fault for not speaking up or asking before now.
Another reason "no good deed goes unpunished" is such a trusim.

The present arrangement seems to suit the Catholic owner of FR, and I concur with his judgement on the subject.
To: is_is
Which naturally leads to the next question: why the eff do you care? Just deal with it, for cripes sake.

Yes. FYI, the moderators don't know who is who. Jim does though, and he can cross check new posters. When you alert us, or we find a troll, we notify Jim and he checks their status. Sometimes we ban someone immediately. You know the obvious ones....F***Bush as a new screen name will be banned without Jim's knowledge. But someone like this fellow who posted this previous thread, we didn't know if he was a retread or not. Jim did confirm. In the worst case situation, we may ban someone, only to find out we errorred, Jim can restore that person, appoligize profusely, and hopefully they will understand. We are only human, mistakes will happen, and we do try to correct them as soon as possible.
We don't willy nilly ban people. Oldtimers get plenty of warnings, and only Jim will ban them. We only ban the really bad newbies.
It's getting worse right now with the newbie trolls, they are comming out of the woodwork, so, we must be doing something right.

I'm sure it does please you. If atheist posturings were banished to the religion black-hole, many posters who presently strut and peck their way like feckless chickens across the breaking news barnyard would never find their way out.
To: fatima
There are plenty of good threads in there, but plenty of rants too, like the intra-Catholic bickering threads, and the anti-Mormon threads. However, none of it is particularly relevant to FR's mission of mobilizing a conservative grassroots force to restore a Consitutional political system in this country, and it turns off a lot of potential members of that grassroots force (often by voicing hostility to their religious beliefs).
