I thought Ritter is a conservative Republican? He has different opinion as far as the preemptive war concept; but so are so many republicans such as Richard Army, Gen. Norm Schwarzkopf, Gen Anthony Zini,....
Now these patriotic American heroes are not traitors, so are Germany, France, and 70% of public opinion in England. The fact is that there are a lot of people who are unconvinced that $100 billion war against a country that has already been defeated, and disarmed is a wise expenditure of resources. I can guarantee you if we were to announce that we are going to invade Saudi Arabia or Iran, there would be very little oppositions world-wide, except for the ragheads! A good illustration is our invasion of Afghanistan, there was practically no opposition. The list of worthless governments is very long; Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Egypt, Libya, Pakistan,

"controversy over a minor sex charge he faced in 2001." Soliciting young girls for sexual kicks and who knows what else is NOT MINOR.
Ritter is a sicko and the media continues to defend his perverted actions.

At this point, yes.

To me, it seems more likely that if his tone was not set by Saddam, it was set by opposition on our side (aka dems).
Whoever's doing it, it's very nasty. And Ritter is very stupid to have gotten himself in this mess. Although, I hope he doesn't top himself. It would be good to eventually find out what the *&# is going on.

But Ritter's work as fervent spokesman against President Bush's proposed war was overshadowed by news earlier this week that he had been arrested in June 2001.This is such an interesting story, seeing as how many have pondered for months now if someone had something on Ritter to cause him to do an about face regarding Iraq.
It is either a huge coincidence that he, in fact, was engaging in this behavior precisely as this speculation was going on, or the perceptions of some have been validated.
Hopefully time will tell, if the investigation continues into why his "sensitive" case(s) was handled in the manner it was.
(Oh, there are several areas that are crying out for a thorough vetting.)

"Now that the news is out, he has no more use for them, and they have no more use for him. "
More than that, he is very likely now someone who konws too much and can't be controled. He would never return alive if he went over there.

You know, there is a context for the discussions surrounding Scott Ritter.
It is not merely his position regarding Iraq. It is how his position changed, starkly, with no apparent justification. The observations about his change, plus his increasingly manic tone and demeanor have been discussed and speculated about for months.
The man was making assertions when he was no longer serving in an official capacity that would enable him to have access to reliable and current information. In fact, his statements seemed to comport almost completely with the Iraq POV.
Again, these are not observations made in the wake of the revelation about his arrest and previous encounter with police, and his opinion was deemed (at least by most here at FR) to be little more than propaganda months ago. The question asked was...why?

I think the writer misplaced his modifier on purpose: "charges involving sex with a minor" becomes "minor sex charges" so it is not clear if minor modifies sex or modifies charges. Tricky.

Tricky. Clever way to get past the editor.

Blackmail no longer works once the info is revealed That's assuming the blackmailer(s) do not have worse dirt on him.

I wonder if it was this planned trip to Iraq that led whoever tipped off the press about Ritter's arrest to do so.
To: 1Old Pro
Perhaps what they meant to say was "controversy over a sex charge with a minor he faced in 2001."

He had planned to fly to Iraq to offer advice to the Iraqi government on ways to avoid a conflict with the U.S.
=========================
Anyone can give that advice. Saddam and hundreds of your relatives and thugs, go into exile.

Ritter is stupid and sick. His first arrest was sealed and supposedly no further action would be taken if he "behaved" for six months. Two months later, they catch him again. Why wasn't the book thrown at him then? It does sound like someone was running interference for him.

$4,000 bucks for a screed? Looks like he was paid off by more than just Iraq. Does the IRS know?

The UN, peaceniks, and dumbocrats around the world told us to trust this guy when he was saying Saddam was a good guy and the money I got from him is just a coincidence.
So much for their word.
