Aren't almost all murders out of hate? If they were out of fear, it would be self-defense, or some type of charge short of murder. The mistake is in saying that one type of hate/motivation is different than another type of hate/motivation. Here in Illinois, if I hate cheesehead Packer backers and murder out of that hate, that hate is obviously as equally reprehensible as hating over race, religion, etc.
All murder out of hate is wrong. To make some murder out of hate more wrong makes some murder out of hate less wrong....and hence not so bad...and almost excusable. EG John Wayne Gacy murdered. But at least he "loved" the young boys before he murdered them. And it was not racial or religious. And since Gacy was gay, his actions couldn't have been like the Wyoming case. So his murders were not as bad as Richard Speck's...who hated women?
The whole concept of "hate crimes" is an absurd distinction.
