WASHINGTON - Hispanics have surpassed Blacks as the nation's largest minority group, the Census Bureau said Tuesday.
The Latino population grew to 37 million in July 2001, up 4.7 percent from April 2000. The Black population increased 2 percent during the same period, to 36.1 million.

The federal government considers "Hispanic" an ethnicity, not a race. Therefore people of Hispanic ethnicity can be of any race.How is black a race? We're all human, right? Right?

How about a "people of color" ping list? ;-)
Funny story: I work in a very PC environment, in a business that requires lots of demographic analysis. As a joke, I came up with a term that I thought was so over-the-top that folks would give me a hard time. Not only did no one "get the joke", the term is now in common use at my company.
The term? "Socio-economically challenged urban communities of color". What we Freepers better know as "ghettos", "slums", or "the inner city".
