HELP - Explain it to me like I'm a 3rd grader - What is it that's good about "diversity."

I don't get it - President Bush says we need diversity - every politician says we need diversity - teachers - professors - deans and school boards say we need diversity.
I'm fairly informed about politics so there's no need to tell me that it's all hyperbole/rhetoric/disinformation etc. I'm actually trying to find out if there are really, literally some intrinsic benefits to "diversity" and what exactly are they?

Well that is a primary difference in usage of terminology.
Diversity within a single culture is a wonderful thing.
Diversity of several cultures to the exclusion of a single culture is what most liberals are pushing for.
So, yes, diversity is a good thing, but maintaining a single culture is paramount.

If we didn't have diversity, who would fill all of those "ethnic dorms"?

Yes, I'm sure that you've never accidentally transposed a letter...
If you had the capacity to look between the lines, perhaps you'd realize that my question is yours, merely reversed. If you can answer it, you've answered your own. Don't want to do that, fine by me.

I once had a class with a gentleman from Japan. We were discussing racism (seems like we discussed this every class period). The professor, a really touchy feely type, asked this gentleman who they handle racism in Japan.
He said they didn't need to.
Why not the prof asked.
There is only one race in Japan was his telling and candid reply.

"If you REALLY want to see 'diversity'... go to 'China Town' (count the Chinese there). Then go to 'Little Italy' (count the Italians there). Then go to 'Little Odessa'... etc, etc."
This really is diversity. Having us all dumbed down to the same inane, secular, liberal, socialist brain dead TV fed sensitivity robots is hardly diversity - it is uniformity.
But then isn't that one of the characteristics of the ORwellian world?

Diversity was the word that replaced "multiethnic," and "multi cultural" when the homosexual movement wanted a piece of the victim pie. For me, diversity means acceptance of immoral homosexual practices.

Re: Condi Rice: Born November 14, 1954 in Birmingham, Alabama, she earned her bachelors degree in political science, cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Denver in 1974; her masters from the University of Notre Dame in 1975; and her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver in 1981. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has been awarded honorary doctorates from Morehouse College in 1991, the University of Alabama in 1994, and the University of Notre Dame in 1995. She resides in Washington, D.C. By the way, she started college at age 15. Not that she graduated with honors at age 20.
Where did you learn that she is a beneficiary of Affirmative Action? Seems to me she didn't need the "extra points."

There is only one race in Japan was his telling and candid reply. They also do not have democrats. At one time, when Japan was really riding high, Rush Limbaugh suggested we export liberalism to Japan in order to slow them down and make it easier to compete.

On January 21st 2003 Tony Snow on Fox News stated that Rice admitted that she benefited from affirmative action programs.

//Diversity gives you a warm fuzzy feeling inside - doesn't it?\\
No. It brings on insomnia, migraine headaches, irregular heartbeats and severe attacks of nausea.
Diversity is the code-word for DIVISIVENESS.
--- As in "Divide and CONQUER." ---
The Left knows that the only way they can turn this country into a Socialist Workers Paradise is by creating doubt and confusion as to the nature of TRUTH, thus dividing us into warring factions armed with IGNORANCE and DISINFORMATION.
Hate is the fuel that empowers Leftists. Lust for Power and Control is their TRUE and ONLY motivation.
Joe McCarthy was RIGHT.
Bush is WRONG to give even LIP-SERVICE to DIVERSITY.
It is a curse.

"Shut up and eat your vegetables. You said vegetables; exactly how diverse is the serving, I mean peas and carrots are OK, but I don't much care for peas and beets or for that matter carrots and turnips.
I also don't put mustard or catsup in my oatmeal...seems that some things are a little too diverse. Could society work that way too Dad?

I did a google search on Condi and Affirmative Action and it seems that she got hired at Stanford at least partially because she was a black woman. I didn't find anything that quotes her on that benefit. I did find in her bios that she was a cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate with Masters and Ph. D. post graduate degrees.
As I said in another post on this thread, it's hard for me to imagine her needing the "extra points."

Good points. There is something I'd like to have clarified however. I know a racist or two, they insist that their bigotry has nothing at all to do with the skin color. They say that would be like saying they don't like Castor Oil because of the color of the bottle. They claim that it is the "culture" that they find derogatory.

"I didn't find anything that quotes her on that benefit."
Rice said she had benefited from affirmative action during her career at Stanford University.
"I think they saw a person that they thought had potential, and yes, I think they were looking to diversify the faculty," she said.
Would she have gotten the position if she hadn't brought diversity along with her potential? She seems to think that she wouldn't have...

"If you had the capacity to look between the lines, perhaps you'd realize that my question is yours, merely reversed. If you can answer it, you've answered your own. Don't want to do that, fine by me." Hmmm, let's see. Potential ways to answer your question:
a. These are things that are good about a "racially" homogenous society.
b. There are no good things about such a society.
c. There are no bad things about such a society.
d. There are good and bad things about such a society.
e. These are the things that bad about such a society.
I fail to see how these potential answers to your question would answer mine. In other words, if there are negative aspects to a homogenous, does that mean there are no negative aspects to a diverse society...or vice versa.

Most stockbrokers will tell you that if you have a certain amount of money, you should diversify - in other words don't put all of your eggs in one basket. I am against affirmative action and other programs which seek to forcefully 'diversify' people - however if all 'groups' of people were more 'mixed up' among each other, then it would be much harder for them to rail against each other. So in the inclusive way - meaning to broaden our horizons and/or to accept different groups of people into our lives - to diversify is good and provides unity, support for one another. Diversity in terms of segregating groups of people and pitting them against each other, such as giving certain groups special status is not really diversifing - it's dividing. I think the Democrats like to use the word "diversify" when the best word to describe their actions and ideas is 'dividing'.

Isn't the essence of a diversified portfolio that securities be allocated in such a way that there is as much negative correlation between one asset class or security and another?
Of course if this could be done perfectly, there would be no down-side, but there would be no up-side either.
So if one wants to make money in the securities markets one has to take a risk and bet one way or the other.
Would injecting a culture/society with new members who are less successful than the existing culture/society cause a decline in the existing culture/society?
How about if we did the opposite - how about if we sent all of our students who achieve a perfect score on the SATs to the University of Somalia? Would that help Somalia's culture/society?
If all of our top students left to go anywhere, wouldn't that degrade our culture/society?
If all of the top black students in Louisiana were "helped" into Harvard in the name of "diversity," what would happen to the quality of the graduate population at Grambling University (an almost all black school in Louisiana) and what impact would that have on the culture/society of Louisiana?
If you are a stockbroker you know that deversifying is tricky business.
