I see the police tape. Was that a protected zone for the Freepers?
We originally were spread out further up the block with a line of police officers betwen us and them. They then began to try to flank us by going up the sidewalk and the Guardian Angels stopped that along with more police.
As the parade went on they kept pushing further and further and the police made a decision to push us down the block a little further and put up the police tape to make it unquestionable that they were not to try to cross that line. They also put the tape in fron of us at that time. Throughout the parade they kept trying every excuse to get to us.
You can see the original line in the first picture of the counter-protest. Note the Guardian angels in the red jackets.
I found it pretty ironic that we were the ones being protected from the loving, peacuful ones. Whenever they shouted curses and flipped me the bird I would just yell back how I felt their love. That seemed to piss them off pretty good and they usually just moved on.
As an aside, behind us was a Korean Deli with plent of hot coffee and a bathroom. It was also a good place to warm up when we needed it. The owners couldn't have been nicer. Plus they had good sandwiches at good prices. Another perk for being on the right side.
