" I'll state the question again, "Who armed Saddam in the first place???"

(Duh, please read up on this subject...please)

So you are claiming that shortly after Saddam come to power and was at war with IRAN, that US was not

complaisant in sending him a BILLION in military hardware???!!! "

During the cold war, Iraq was a Soviet client state. The Soviet Union supplied the majority of Iraqi weaponary. What he could not get from the Soviets he obtained from the French, Germans, and Chinese.

Example: The KARI integrated air-defense system of Iraq, designed and built by what was then Thomson-CSF of France.

Example:During the cold war, Czech arms companies supplied much of the Third World, including Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, and North Korea, with high-tech military equipment and explosives.

Example: The reactor destroyed by the IDF in 1981, at the Osirak nuclear facility near Baghdad was built with French assistance. Iraq has admitted that they were months from completing a crude atomic weapon with this French help. Remember this was 1981.

These are just a few of the examples where during the arms build up of the 70s and 80s Iraq used its oil revenues to build up a modern military using French, Soviet and Eastbloc weaponary and systems.

While you seek to blame the United States for the aggressive policies of Saddam and Iraq, the real blame must be assigned to the Europeans and Soviets. It was they who armed Saddam

A quick review of the Iraqi arsenal during the 60s, 70s, and 80s, using the numerous sources available will confirm this. Check them for yourself and get educated. Get the real facts and quit posting silly nonsense.
