BAGHDAD (Reuters) - President Saddam Hussein hailed worldwide anti-war demonstrations on Saturday and said the protests showed that Iraq had international support for standing up to the United States.
Saddam ordered his top officers to look after their soldiers to gain their confidence and make sure they were well-fed and kept warm as they prepared to sacrifice their blood to defend Iraq.
Tens of thousands of people took part in protests across the globe on Saturday to demand that Washington abandon likely plans to invade Iraq over alleged weapons of mass destruction.
"They are supporting you because they know that evildoers target Iraq to silence any dissenting voice to their evil and destructive policies," Saddam told senior military officers and his son Qusay, the commander of the elite Republican Guards.
A recording of the meeting was broadcast on Baghdad's state- run television.
"Iraq's cause has become clear...it simply is that Iraqis are in their country while others cross the seas to reach them and tell them 'we want to share with you your country or we want to be the masters and you the followers'," Saddam said.
"We don't need to exert ourselves to make Iraqis understand that their cause is just. They understand that their cause is just," he added.
The United States is massing tens of thousands of troops, hundreds of tanks and aircraft, and several battleships and aircraft carriers to the Gulf to be ready to launch an offensive if Iraq's fails to disarm. Baghdad denies it has any nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.
The Iraqi strongman, who said on Friday that U.S. troops would be committing suicide if they tried to take Baghdad, said Iraqis would not be defeated despite the superiority in arms and technology of the American military machine.
"You, as military people, know that the battle will only be determined by armies on the ground, but despite this your enemy has the capability of harming when it uses long-distance weapons," Saddam said.
But he said Iraq would emerge victorious.
"When a people believe in the justice of its cause, it can stand fast in the face of evil, no matter what equipment or technology it has. This is the lesson that you are teaching the world now," Saddam said.
He ordered the officers to look after soldiers and keep them warm, "like you would check on your young children before going to bed and check their blankets while they are sleeping."

"If there's money to be made in pimping out corporations, for the sake of race, this man is beyond a bigot. He's a pimp who panders off of corporations in the notion of bringing them down to their knees. In other words, they don't have a right to exist unless they bow down to Jackson and his pimping comrades. Jackson needs to be shaken down to his knees and realize that in God's eyes he is an abomination for what he is doing not only to his own people but also to society! Let us also realize that Jackson is also a CFR member." Dittoes, my FRiend!! Maybe you me and sw and FTH can start the Native-AmericansAgainstRacialBigotry (N.A.A.R.B.) and git on FoxNewsChannel to debate Jesse Jackson!!

Yes, it was I who used the phrase "dumb black Muslims". It was not meant to infer that all black Muslims are dumb, just that the rhyming rantings linking the impending war with Iraq and racism could only be expected from morons, and because you know all about morons, I didn't think it needed qualification. /S

Bush first used it, and my opinion hasn't changed. It really is a curious oddity that Saddam Hussein is using this word. And another point,we've really got to get the Gov't to change "Homeland" Security to some other name.I think of Russia whenever I hear the word "Homeland"./brief rant off

What I wouldn't give to see a list of those that fund the Fund. I would bet a great deal that some of the biggest names in Hollywood are on it. If I'm right, a percentage of what each of us pay at the box office go into the Fund. Time to boycott George Clooney, Jessica Lange, Sean Penn, Sue Sarandan, Tim Robbins, etc. The book is probably better, anyway.

You asked the question as to who armed Iraq. I replied and gave you several examples. You could not answer and instead went off on a tangent.
Lets review: Russia, Germany, France, and the Combloc armed Saddam. These are the same countries that now oppose American attempts to deal with Saddam.
You cannot refute this. You have no comeback for these facts.
You started out trying to blame America for arming Saddam. You got your weak argument rejected and now you have been reduced to posting nonsense in giant letters.
The bottom line: Deal with the facts that of all of these other countries armed Saddam and place the blame for this tinhorn dictator and his adventures where it belongs.
I challenge you to show where the American contribution to Saddam's arsenal was greater than the Russian, Chinese, and European involvement.
Whatever America may have provided, it was a drop in the bucket when compared to these other countries.
The same countries who now oppose American efforts to deal with this power hungry dictator.

Remember this?
" I'll state the question again, "Who armed Saddam in the first place???"
That was your original question.
You received an answer that you were not expecting. You thought that you could post up this standard 'blame America' foolishness and everyone would just roll over and accept you as some honcho
Well you didn't know your facts and your move to the hoop was cleanly blocked and now the play is going the otherway.
Russia, France and all the other countries armed Saddam. That was the answer you didn't want to see.

Dittoes, my FRiend!! Maybe you me and sw and FTH can start the Native-AmericansAgainstRacialBigotry (N.A.A.R.B.) and git on FoxNewsChannel to debate Jesse Jackson!!Quite sincerely, I would. I used to stand for what Jackson was spouting until I realized that I was being used just as others have to promote his anti-american sentiment. Not anymore as I have awoken from that deep slumber and am ready to confront the enemy. I do not hate the enemy but strongly dislike what they are doing to contribute an anti-social environment in America. And as much as I definitely DO NOT celebrate Martin Luther King Day, I am sure that King would have nothing to do with Jackson as Jackson promotes hostility in the community as well as the society at large. King would actually say to Jackson in the face that he (Jackson) is a disgrace to his own people!!!!

".... You don't think we did not analyze their war situation and give IRAQ EXACTLY what it took to finish the job?"
With the majority of Saddam's military might being French / Russian / Combloc, I fail to see what America gave him to 'finish the job' Would you care to provide some proof?
"The government produced their version of the equipment sold them....and I bet it's not a complete tally....it never is because we are never given the straight dope on anything anymore (the very reason FreeRepublic was born..read the charter on the home page)"
Why speculate when the facts are there that others provided Saddam with what he needed to establish himself as a regional superpower. You keep missing the point.
".... I agree he had lots of French, Soviet and possibly Chinese (now, thanks to Israel) toys to piss around with, but when it came down to brass tacks, it took American advisorship, technology, and hardware to get it done. We created this MONSTER, by the way, I think he looks alot like another Monster we created...Joseph Stalin!"
Add it up and show me where we provided more military assistance to Saddam than all the others.
You seem so eager to 'make the facts fit' your version of hate America. However you like the rest of your 'blame America first' crew are way off course.
Do the research and find out the real facts. Stop guessing and take a look at who REALLY is responsible. Hint: Its not America.
Just why do you think the French / Russians and others are opposing America so harshly? Do some background work on the subject and quit making yourself look like a fool.

The visuals showed the same low life that trashed Seattle. The organizers, by name, such as Ramsey Clark, Joan Baez and Martin Sheen are all retreads doing this for the third time.
Surely independent and well informed thinkers will see this. The bubble heads that watch MTV and who love Barbara Streisand will refuse to see anything other than their myopic hate of President Bush.

Remember how loyal the "hardhats" were by opposing the Viernam war protestors?
How the hell did they let their unions become involved with these slimeballs? I'm shocked and apalled at that.
If you are a dues paying union member you should be ashamed if you support it and even more ashamed if you don't support it but let it happen.
Shame on you.
