Other than being frustrated by the darkly lit scenes (I want to SEE what's going on), I really enjoyed the movie. Your frustration with the darkness was part of the point. Shayamalan got to you, as he intended to do. The darkness is frustrating and disorienting, much like his camera's tendency to linger on something, ANYTHING other than what you desperately want to see!
I thought it was a very well-made movie.

There was another thread with stills from the movie. It will be very graphic and I think it needs to be so that we can all understand Christ's suffering. That being said, the pictures gave me second thoughts about taking my two boys. They have seen blood and gore in movies but I believe this will be a very emotional experience for many viewers (I hope so anyway). I'll take my oldest son but probably get the video for home viewing.
I wonder what kind of rating it will get if it's very brutal?

Your frustration with the darkness was part of the point.I know, but a movie has to be very good to hold on to me in spite of frustrating me like that. This one did.
I also didn't miss the symbolism of the last scenes being brightly lit. :=)

Preach on, Linda! I am so totally with you. When I signed up for something, I got cheap subscriptions to several magazines, including Time and Newsweek. I did not continue those rags. I don't watch West Wing, I certainly will not watch that new bomb with the Brolin guy, I even stopped watching Law and Order and the Practice for their constant hammering on liberal issues.
And you know what - I don't miss any of them. And I totally agree with the right of these people to spew their beliefs, and I have my right to spew my own and boycott their attempts at so-called journalism and entertainment.

Bump for the trash heap with that worthless garbage! And a salute to Mel Gibson, I do like his work. Glad to know he's one of us. Count ol' Norbert in with the VRWC!

"I wonder what kind of rating it will get if it's very brutal? "
Crucifixtion, originally conceived somewhere in the Middle East, and typically refined by the Romans, as they did with everythng they adopted, to the hights of perfection, was VERY brutal and I can't imagine this getting anything but an X- rating.
Gibson seems to be fixated with having himself done away with in the most revolting manner in historical roles.
I am a history buff myself, but enjoy reading about politics, military operations, battles, weapons, etc. Methods of execution are not really something I enjoy reading about or viewing.

I have every intention of seeing this movie! I would prefer a "Mel Gibson" movie with him in front of the camera as opposed to behind it...but I want this movie to be a HUGE success! I'm just curious to see what of "Hollywierd" will show up at the premier...

Wondering out loud here...
I've heard recently that more of our young people are voting republican. And now ABCBSNBC is losing veiwers to cable channels.
Are we conservatives really growing in numbers? I hope so.

While I agree with 90% of this column, I would argue that we cannot isolate ourselves with only conservative media. We need to read the liberal news papers, watch CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC. If we don't then we will not have a complete view of what we are up against. Know your enemy. You cannot know them if you isolate your self. I was guilty of this when The Fox New Channel started up. I only watched them, and found my self not really caring what the other side was doing. It was my wife who pointed out the error of isolation.

We need to read the liberal news papers, watch CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC We need to figure out a way to do this without contributing to them financially. Any ideas?

What no pictures of Mel???? How can this thread have gotten this far without at least one? (I'd post them, but I don't know how, yeah, lame, I know.) If this were an Ann Coulter thread the rabid guys would have posted at least a dozen pics by now.

I have to wonder how many theater owners will simply not buy the film.

Go Linda! This is the best article I've read on F.R. in awhile. This is so right-on. And written by a woman, dontcha just love conservative women?

Keep tuning into FR and you'll have no need to waste your time boosting their ratings.

we cannot isolate ourselves with only conservative media. We need to read the liberal news papers, watch CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC. If we don't then we will not have a complete view of what we are up against. Yes, but. Advertising executives deliberately try to irritate you in order to cause you to remember their message; that is true of all of the PR field including journalism.
With all best intentions I still pick up at least a couple of news broadcasts a day, knowing that it isn't anywhere near Philipians 4:8 to do so. Rush's program doesn't start at noon Eastern time; it starts when the clock radio pops on at 12:06 PM.
I came to FR from a C-Span message board, where I debated liberals daily--and I had a reluctance to come to an explicitly conservative forum for exactly the reason you cited. But in fact the liberals never had anything new, and they became boring once you caught on to their limitations. FR does at least have anticonservative articles to gnaw on. The read-only nature of print/broadcast media surely does grate on a dedicated blog poster!!

An apocalyptic tale in which Mel Gibson, as Mad Max, takes on "The Bride of Satan".
