Thank you for the links. Alot of interesting information in there. Perahps we didn't COMPLETELY abandon the Kurds but we sure didn't help them out like we promised.

If you go to the bottom of all the articles which you draw from regarding the aftermath of the war, it seems alot of Americans were not happy with the way it was handled either.

I also found an article at http://history.searchbeat.com/gulfwar.htm

If you go to it scroll down to the bold portion which says "Ground Campaign." About the third paragraph it says: "However when no American support (for the Kurds) was forthcoming, Iraqi Generals remained loyal to Sadaam and crushed the Kurdish troops.

We did less than a bang up job.

Without bin Laden, the Bush junta would still be trying to explain such tricky matters as how it came to be elected in the first place; Enron; its shameless favouring of the already-too-rich; its reckless disregard for the world?s poor, the ecology and a raft of unilaterally abrogated international treaties

I'll admit I stopped reading right here. But I'll be nice and clear these up for him:
1. Elected. According to the rules. We won. get over it.
2. Enron. Not the presidents problem. Justice department handling the investigation of violation of federal laws as it should.
3. Favoring the already-too-rich. First of all who is he to declare someone too rich and secondly what has President Bush done that favors the rich more than anyone else.
4. Disregarding worlds poor. Constitutionally not our problem. Let their own countries take care of them.
5. ecology. He's already rolling back some of the out of control anti-human ecological nightmares, what more do you want. We were put here as stewards of the land. That means we have to tend it, mine it, cut trees where needed, and do whatever else is best for man. While he's not perfect (we still have Endangered species act) he is making progress. (good work on fixing clean water act 'wetlands' provision)
6. international treaties. Constitution gives President authority to enter and leave treaties. He's doing what's right. Especially since most of the treaties we left were downright stupid for us to have been in in the first place.

Hope that helps. So far President Bush is doing a great job. (needs to cut taxes more but he's working on it.)

I agree with you, if we're going to do it, do it right. We've had too much half-hearted campaigns, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq...

They don't get to me. And I don't have to go to DU as some suggest, there are plenty of ignorant people here to have fun with.

I agree with much of what you say, and alot of other people here. I think our policies and the way we waged war in the past have led to some of the problems we have today.

What I mean by that is, Korea, we went half way and stopped. Vietnam we pulled out and now have normalized relations, more or less. Mogadishu. Lebannon. In my opinion it's no wonder our enemies think we are weak. We don't seem to finish the job.

As far as China is concerned, I know the Clinton administration gave them alot of technology. I believe we did the same with North Korea, giving them nuclear technology. We gave them the means to make weapons to destroy us. I don't understand that.

I don't know who's worse, the North Koreans or the Iraqi's. Heck, half the world hates us.

Someone else said we have a long way to go. I believe that is correct. If we would have taken care of business the first time around in some of these wars mabye we wouldn't have the problems we have today.

Maybe it is hindsight. But I think those countries looked at our decisions as weakness. And I don't think that if they get the opportunity they will show as much restraint with us.

Personally I think we're on the doorstep of WWIII. I think it's inevitable. That's what it will take to rid the world of communism/socialism.

We are not the prisoner of 1991, but I think the saying applies about those who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them.
