Kaunda also lost a son to AIDS. Famine in Southern aAfrica had been made a problem of the past until Mugabe destroyed the farming economy of Zimbabwe by appropriating farms (mostly white, but some black as well). Kaund spent some thirty years leading Zambia and made all the typical errors of post-colonial Africa.
I agree with little of Kaunda's stances, but in this case he is right.
He is also to be commended for standing up to Mugabe, something which Mbeki of South Africa cannot see his way to do.
