Latin and Aramaic? Wow, I absolutely can't wait to see this picture. Anyone know when it opens?

Let's pray that Mel's film is a BLOCKBUSTER.
Let's also pray that your prediction comes true.

If Satan really existed, I suspect he'd have better things to do than muck with third-rate Hollyweirdos. A) I do not think you will find many folks here or even amongst his detractors who find Mel Gibson a third rate Hollywierdo.
B) For the sake of argument if you did indeed believe Satan to exist and that Satan had a mind to "muck" with the world, then what do YOU think Satan would have in mind?

Yeah...I thought his daydreaming spaced out footpounder part in The Thin Red Line was about the only redemption aside from some first class cinematography...which was due mainly to the surreal tropical landscape.

One of my favorites was Patriot also. But don't you all remember the Hollywood left getting "up in arms" (no pun intended) over the scene with his boys killing the soldiers that stole their brother?
They hated the 2nd amendment being portrayed accurately. Young boys learned to ride and shoot as soon as they were able to walk. They were needed to help hunt and bring home food to eat for the family.
I loved it!

Satan doesn't like boundaries. Evil grows within deviancy, lying, stealing, killing, lawlessness and a Government that allows it to prosper. I think he's alive and well on planet earth (Hal Lindsey).
Children are dispensable, adultery is expected, little white lies are not considered as such, prostitution just an annoyance to our law enforcement. All of these are just the tip of the iceberg in a sea of possibilities for samples of evil becoming more and more prominent in our society.
Not to mention that Christmas will soon be outlawed by the ACLU. Political correctness is just a term for "whitewashing the truth."

If only Mel Gibson were the standard for his peers in the industry! I love this guy.

Happy is everything in faith. The details will be unimportant if you the big one right.
I wish I had it as easy as you do, but it's not my choice.
I see people here who are not believers, they don't attack anyone else, they just can't believe no matter how much they want to. It's not their fault. They couldn't believe anymore than you could disbelieve. You just can't make yourself believe something which you don't.

That's what he said.
Man. Latin I can follow. Aramaic? Yeesh.
Oh, well, I know the gist of the story already...

I know, and from what I read in "Catholic Digest"; he's probably as conservative as Mel is. He's about 11 or 12 years younger too. They had a great article on him in the above magazine. He's quite a conservative Catholic like Mel is.

In short, they did the same thing to "We Were Soldiers" as they did to "The Patriot". They picked it apart, and buried it. I have a feeling they are going to do it to this new one too!

I don't think that graphic violence is going to be the issue, but the portrayal of the Jewish community and their leaders might be. Although I've seen it handled deftly before, this is a sticky issue because of the nature of the gospels.
IMHO the whole business of the trial of Jesus before the Sanhedrin, Pilot washing his hands, and the like, is a transparent and quite clumsy fabrication. Early Christians were in a difficult position wrt the Roman Empire, both because of the fact that they were seen as a sect of Judaism, and thus associated with the Jewish rebellion, and because their God/founder had been executed by the empire. Various corruptions were included in the Gospel accounts of the passion to signal that Christians did not blame Romans for Jesus' death (Pilot didn't even want to do it, the Jews made him) and to generally disassociate Christianity from Judaism.
Unfortunately these inventions, however understandable and even innocent at the time, had well known deleterious effects centuries later in pogroms against "Christ killers," and are still a problem for anyone making a movie about the events that will not offend either Jews or biblical literalists.
