Last Friday a friend of mine in California drove to his local supermarket with a sticker on his car saying: Peace is also Patriotic. It was gone by the time hed finished shopping. Idiot. He should've bought The Club.

John le Carre? It reads like he conglomerated a hodge-podge of lefty slogans and grasps at understanding. In fact, I've read each one of them somewhere posted here.

Oh, wait....he meant the bumper sticker was gone.
What a crock. I don't believe that for a second. Either the friend is lying or the Limey is lying. Now that I think about it, the Limey is probably lying about having a friend let alone a friend whose car had a moronic bumper sticker stolen.

This is in The Times? Where did they get this nutcase from...?

All my Le Carre novels are going into the trash as soon as I get home.
Anyone that can spew this bilious nonsense will not be on my bookshelf.

Imagine--America over-reacting to its two tallest buildings collapsing and killing 2,800 people, and its Pentagon attacked by air with the death of another few hundred, and possibly its White House being targeted by an airplane that thankfully was driven into the ground by the action of patriots.
We haven't even begun to over-react yet, Mr. LaCarre.

I had to check twice to convince myself that this wasn't printed in The Guardian.

The imminent war was planned years before bin Laden struck, but it was he who made it possible. Without bin Laden, the Bush junta would still be trying to explain such tricky matters as how it came to be elected in the first place; Enron; its shameless favouring of the already-too-rich; its reckless disregard for the worlds poor, the ecology and a raft of unilaterally abrogated international treaties. They might also have to be telling us why they support Israel in its continuing disregard for UN resolutions. This says it all... I am at war with The Left.

God also has pretty scary connections. In America, where all men are equal in His sight, if not in one anothers, the Bush family numbers one President, one ex-President, one ex-head of the CIA, the Governor of Florida and the ex-Governor of Texas. Don't forget about Prescott Bush, you leftist jerk off.

The reaction to 9/11 is beyond anything Osama bin Laden could have hoped for in his nastiest dreams. As in McCarthy times, the freedoms that have made America the envy of the world are being systematically eroded. Um, like to WOD levels? Still not quite as oppressive as the UK, I think. Forget France.
The combination of compliant US media and vested corporate interests is once more ensuring that a debate that should be ringing out in every town square is confined to the loftier columns of the East Coast press. Ah, the "they don't agree with me so they must be dupes." Problem is we got this internet thingy, and the "US media" gets fact-checked.
"Loftier columns of the East Coast press."
Sniff. Did his grad student assistant write this?

Wow, Carre has gone senile and lost his touch at writing, too.
Apparently it hasn't occurred to the spymaster that Saddam could give Al Qaeda anthrax or sarin or, if he finishes making one, a nuclear weapon. Sad. It wouldn't even be a very original plot, but Carre's brain wiring is so undone he can't even think of it.
To: Pokey78
Well, somebody's gone nuts but it isn't America. The "Bush junta?" Right-wing Christians in charge of a holy war? Saddam's known chemical weapons magically disappearing? Whew!
To be charitable, Mr. Le Carre is unacquainted with either public opinion or political conditions in the United States at the present time. He is evidently overexposed to hysterical European cant on the matter and mistakes it for received truth. He should learn better, but I expect from the above that he's much happier in his certainty and his ignorance.
To: Pokey78
He just polishes the dust off the same screed every 5 yrs and alters a few words, but it's real old from Mr Cornwell. He hasn't written a decent thing since 1974.
To: Billthedrill
I didn't know Le Carre was a leftist, nor did I know that Le Carre was taking screenwriting tips from Oliver Stone. That being said, this is typical leftist projection. They go mad and then they run around in hysterics accusing everyone else of being insane.

. His very real anxieties about terror are shared by all sane men. What he cant explain is how he reconciles a global assault on al-Qaeda with a territorial assault on Iraq. A long time ago, LeCarre' used to have an understanding of global political realities; now all he can do is parrot the Left's grotesque simplifications.
