Predictions of Traditio

Posted on 01/14/2003 1:11:58 PM PST by traditio

As Yogi Berra says, prediction is hazardous, especially with regard to the future, but here goes:

The logic of the situation will force Bush to attack, presumably late in February, though this prediction is not about timing. The really disturbing news, if it’s true, is Blair’s apparent temporizing in the face of Labour Party opposition. I don’t think stiffing the UN will be so hard, but stiffing the UK will be tough.

Anyway, once we attack, several things are likely. Hussein is likely to use chemical and biological weapons, making a mockery of all the absurd calls for evidence. We may be able to suppress the scale of this use, but he will surely attack Israel with anthrax- and VX-tipped SCUDs and probably us. The use of weapons of mass destruction will not, however, prevent a worldwide ululation. The mediacrat response will be muted at first because Bush will go on television and make a compelling case for the attack, but within days we will hear a rumble increasing to a roar that Bush cornered Hussein and forced him to use weapons of mass destruction. The American people will be angered by the chemical and biological attacks, but the liberals won’t be able to help themselves and will rant on. The Eurocrats will, of course, be angry only with us. We will also be hit by terrorist acts, possibly quite severe, which will further enrage the American people, but the mediacrats will say that Bush should have taken care of Al Quaeda before attacking Iraq. They will conveniently forget that we invaded Afghanistan, home base of Al Quaeda, before we attacked Iraq.

The short and short of it is that the war will be an explosive event. A lot of people support war because they think that it will go well, because they trust Bush, and because they hate Hussein. Bush will have to lead them to support the war because it is necessary, because they distrust political leadership around the world, and because they fear Hussein. The nastier the war is, the more its necessity will reveal itself.

So that’s the prediction: a bloody, shocking, terrifying, infuriating, bewildering maelstrom that will oppose those motivated by duty and conviction to everybody else.

The banner of peace and morality will be held high by Democrats who fear a successful Republican-led war, by Europeans who fear exposure and fear American dominance but refuse to open their societies up enough to compete with us, by inspectors who will ask for more time to collect evidence even as anthrax and VX rain down on Israel, and by the rest of the Devil-infested around the world. Whited sepulchers wherever we look.

I find your scenario quite reasonable. I wonder if your thinking is shared by those making the decisions.

Shouldn't the democRATs and other liberals be praying that the UN Weapon Inspectors find Weapons of Mass Destruction ASAP? I hear them all whining that Bush can't liberate Iraq because the weapons inspectors haven't found a smoking gun. But the UN Declaration states that Iraq is to turn everything over and the fact they haven't even explained what happened to the WMD they had before which they've since hidden is defacto breach. The liberals seem to keep praying that the inspectors find nothing when what they should really be hoping is that the inspectors find EVERYTHING. As long as Iraq hasn't cooperated and turned everything over then Bush et. al. continue to maintain the mandate to lead a coalition of the willing to unarm for them. To the contrary, it appears the DemoncRATs are all mixed up and, instead, praying that the Inspectors continue to be obstructed by Sadaam and that they don't find anything. They don't seem to realize the implications and how W is just waiting for the right time to arrive and then turn the tables on 'em hehehe
