I am taking a wild guess but I think she actively sought this assignment. She wants to build a reputation in the Senate and in New York. The more she can take on the better for her. She is planning something in 2008 - either a run for president or a run for Governor of New York State.

On another thread, the senate dims are holding up the resolution to allow a change in chairmanships. the dims want to keep control of the committees. Everyone needs to call their senators NOW!

This is her attempt at creating a "Military Record" for her 2008 presidential run. I can't believe they would give her the clearance necessary. This is bad.
