The Democrats are in the process of shutting down the Senate to stop the GOP from chairing Senate hearings.
This is going to be two years of total war. Let's see if the media notices!

The Democrats are in the process of shutting down the Senate to stop the GOP from chairing Senate hearings. They using procedural rules or a filibuster? Either way, denying the majority party committee chairmanship has to be a new low in Senate partisanship...

Senator Sarbanes speaking - He has a problem with allocation of committee resources (i.e. staffing) for the Democrats.

I wonder if we have reached the point where our Government can no longer function. I blame the RATS though, and perhaps it was destined to end this way.
To: dirtboy
How can they achieve such a thing? I thought that the majority party set up the committees, and that's that.
This is the second thread I've seen regarding this, and I'm profoundly confused.

Democrats are talking about filibustering the committee organization resolution.
Sen. Nickles - Committees will be held whole... Money for the Dems on banking committee (Sarbanes' committee) will be the same as last year.
To: Deb
Obstructionism... They are begging for a 50 50 split in committee funding based on the Monstrosity created last year when Jumpin Jeffords fouled the nest.
Up to that time it was 1/3 to 2/3, but when the Turncoat took the bribe the democrats changed the funding proportions to 49/50 because the change was not a voter change. The demoRATS are having trouble understanding why the Senate should be returned back to the old funding proportions. Apparently the Democrats are unable to understand or tolerate the authority of the voters.

And what's even more funny is that the resolution doesn't even have any monetary issue in it.

The rats want 50% of staff and funding in committees....
Looser has historically got one third....with 2/3 to Senate controller..ie GOP this time.

On everything. Check out
editorial from the WSJ:
Conveniently, any organizing delay allows Democrats to continue as committee chairmen, slowing the Republican start. Joe Lieberman, who is supposed to be the former chairman of Governmental Affairs, sent out a notice saying that he'd preside over this week's confirmation hearing for Tom Ridge, nominated to run the new Homeland Security Department. This would mean a nice photo-op for the soon-to-be Presidential candidate, but it's an insult to Maine Republican Susan Collins, who should be running the committee. The White House pulled Mr. Ridge at the last minute to deny Mr. Lieberman his chance to knock the Administration around, but this only delays Mr. Ridge's ability to get on with the job.
The rest of the editorial is worth reading.
