Well, I don't think that's true at all. It is the knowledge that this great experiment (the USA) is ephemeral, that makes them fight for it, and deplore those who forget.

Have no problem "fighting for it". Was just making an observation about what "I" view is the condition of the Republic and those who occupy it at this time. Unfortunately, and thanks to our excellent public education system I fear the vast majority of Americans don't have a clue "from whence we came".

Fewer and fewer "fighters" these days.

And again, only based upon a study of history, do I "think" that eventually America will end up as the "great civilizations" that preceeded her. The "rot" from within has been in progress for quite some time now.
