To: A. Pole
The question is, why is it only the more recent immigrants who come with these problems? I believe that a lot of it lies in the simple refusal to assimilate which I know is a bad word but it's what most people used to do when they came here. I know my family did.

About Poles they are divided. One part wants to forget Poland as soon as possible, they even change their last names and do not want their children to speak Polish. The other group tries to preserve Polish identity, sends their children to Poland for vacation and enlists then to after-school Polish programs.

The first group tend to be ashamed of their origin and wants to blend in as soon as possible.

Both groups tend to have Polish cable TV, hmm...
