MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA -- State Rep. Johnny Ford said Thursday he will switch from the Democratic to the Republican Party, making him the first black Republican in the Alabama Legislature in at least a century.

"I am doing this because I strongly feel that in Alabama we need to put partisan politics behind us and join hands as one," said Ford, who quietly supported Republican Gov.-elect Bob Riley during last year's election.

All you Mississippi Republicans remember, especially in the 2nd district, it's less than two years until we can get rid of Bennie Thompson.

Get behind Clinton LeSeurer and there will be yet another Republican in Congress. (Oh, yeah. He's a black guy. So what?)

A Republican who is also an American of African descent. In Misissippi. What a concept. And he managed this move in his life with no assistance whatsoever from affirmative action.

This would be fantastic . . .if he wasn't a lawyer.

(Reminds of a scene in Blazing Saddles -- "OK, we'll even let the Irish stay."

Johnny Ford is an Alabama legislator, not a Mississippian. Mississippi already has a great Black Republican, that being former Mayor Charles Evers, brother of Medgar. After being victimized by the Bilbo Democrats, he knows which party is the real racist party.

I am very tired of this "black" racist sh#*. I do not want:

a black Republican.

a black doctor

a black President

a black NASCAR owner or driver

etc.

If you are going to define yourself by your color, race, religion, country of origin then we have nothing in common and nothing to discuss.

I welcome (the same as I would welcome any sub-group except islime):

a republican who is Black

a doctor who is Black

a President who is black

a NASCAR owner/drive who is black

anyone who is not a hypenated such and such.
