With respect to "loathsome ideologies", I would say that Frankfurt, Germany is up there, too (ever heard of the Frankfurt School?). Out of curiosity, how many of the Bolsheviks were French?

There were a very large number of French commies. Factory worker commies helped bring down France in WWII by sabotaging equipment built for the French army (at the time, the Molotov-Ribbentop Pact was in effect, so the commies were allied with the Nazis)

We both know that the Frankfurt School came to America with bad results; e.g., Herbert Marcuse. I'm no apologist for that Gramscian garbage.
