I'm on a tight budget too, but I wouldn't think of canceling my local news rag or my telephone service or my cable. I view Free Republic as important or even more so than any of those, so I contribute monthly. What would any of us pay for a meal out? For a new book? Ask yourself how many hours you spend at Free Republic reading the news, chatting with friends, arguing the points...How much is that worth to you? As much as that meal out perhaps?
