What occurred to me as I read the headline on the article (thanks for the ping, mhking) is that just as most "black" Americans are indubitably part white, so a great many "white" Americans have at least a few (and some a lot) African genes.

So, the "need to look within" basically works for us all, one way or another. The problem of single-mother families, violence, crime, and poverty isn't exclusive to certain black cultures here, though it's more concentrated in them.

Rather than the woes described in the article being a "black problem", I see it as an American problem, one that has been created or exacerbated by the policies of the Left. We need to acknowledge this and simply get down to basics to work on solutions. Race is the least hurdle anyone faces in this country.

"Race is the least hurdle anyone faces in this country." That bit of truth reminds me of a Thomas Sowell column in which he opined "If what the NAACP was set up to do still needed doing, they'd have good leaders instead of what they've got."

The problem we have is that if a white person points any of this out, by writing an editorial like this, that person would immediately be branded a racist and attacked verbally and in print, by all the usual suspects. Unfortunately, it is very difficult for whites to do much on this one.

We need more Niger Innis's, J.J. Jackson's, Cinnamon Stillwell's, and folks like that, speaking the truth and making the black community realistically confront its problems. What the white community can do is support folks like these.
