The nominative and dative cases of petra do indeed have different endings (-a and -h, respectively); however, petros is masculine, and petra is feminine.
Erratum: the nominative and dative cases of petra are spelled identically, but the dative case alpha has an iota-subscript, which I haven't figured out how to post with HTML codes.
