The following by Stone Mountain needs to be repeated. If you honest, law abiding, good cops want respect, stop raising the blue wall everytime one of the bad ones do something stupid. And it doesn't fool us that you guys will handle it internally.... we see that doesn't actually happen.

>>I don't doubt that the majority of police officers are not jack-booted thugs. However, until police officers stop lying and covering up for each other, I'm still going to view most of them suspiciously. You mentioned a bunch of good and honest cops who were helpful to you. Do you believe these same cops would hesitate to lie for a fellow officer? If the cops who were "cowboys" would be reported for their transgressions by their fellow officers, and punished by their superiors, you would see much less distrust of the police by the public.

They have shown that they don't deserve trust so often it makes my teeth hurt.

As soon as they stop protecting the bad ones and pretending like they handle it internally, then I'll start respecting the ones left. Until then, I'll treat them the way they treat me, with distrust and hostility. No.. no matter what they do, I'll treat them exactly the way they treat me.

If they were more polite to people, I bet they'd be really suprised that people were more polite to them. They forget that the majority of people are law abiding decent humans.

Once they get that testosterone pumping at 2 gallons per minute, the LAST thing they want is to have it go to waste.

Perzactly

And, as a Tenneseean, I want this dumass to pay a price. As another poster said, he is could have as easily busted a cap into Mom, Dad or the kid. He just needed to shoot.

Just this morning I saw my local firefighters, et al, do their job when the house next to mine was on fire. Up close, I saw the courage and skill of these men at work.

The dog shooter is a shame and disgrace, and needs to get back to burger flipping to learn some discipline.

No one can re-read your posts, because they can't read them in the first place. You are, what we call in this suckel country, illiterate.

You used to be annoying, but you are actually making my argument for me and it's kind of funny.

And you probably don't even know it.

Lara, you're dealing with a keyboard "warrior" and a LEO wannabee. The closest Mr. Suckel's come to law enforcement is yelling at someone in WalMart for breaking into the tampon machine.

Wonder if there's a 'betting pool' on how long the illiterate will last here? If the cretin is truly a LEO, one HAS to wonder how it could pass any tests much less read departmental rules.

"Lastly, I personally have met very few vicious or violent dogs that would have sat in that car for 40 minutes with the door open and their owners being manhandled by the police."

That's all well and good except you are reading the time as in hours. I believe the times that they are referencing is the minutes and seconds into the stop as read out on the camera.

For example, James Smoak asks, "What did I do?" at 2 minutes and 18 seconds into the stop.

So, according to those times quoted, the dog was only in the car for 49 seconds after Mr. Smoak first requested the door be closed. That delay could easily be explained as the result of the dog trying to figure out how to get out through the rear of the car to his master kneeling on the ground and finally realizing the front passenger door was left open he had to make his way over the rear seat, then the front seat.

Also, FWIW, those times as you are interpreting them would mean the dog was out running around for 2 minutes. In fact, he went from the door to the wrong end of the shotgun barrel in slightly over three seconds.

..all the officers on the scene need to be FIRED and this family needs to sue that county and the State of Tenn. until they are bleed dry...

Why should Tennessee taxpayers have to pay, instead of the shooter?

I agree.

I mean, this isn't the cop's fault. He got a BOLO and followed up on it. The dog, like my dog would have done, thought the owner was threatened and came out to protect.

These cops didn't know that they were dealing with a nice family mistaken as robbers. Would you rather them put their lives in danger by politely walking up to the car and tapping on the window and asking them, politely, if they happened to have violently robbed somebody?

Sometimes, we are too hard on all cops because of what some, not all, cops have done.

Well yes I would.

The number of incidents of individual cops being shot at is very low. You watch too much TV if you think otherwise.

Deputy Fife felt the need to carry a gun, Sheriff Taylor never did.

We have militarized our police force too much. We don't need to treat most incidents as needing a SWAT team.

Don't you think Ruby Ridge would have come off a whole lot better if they got a pot-bellied tobacco-spitting sheriff to go knock on Weaver's door, tug on his suspenders, spit, and say "Hey Randy, ya missed your court date [ptuh!]. What's up with that?"

Instead we got a SWAT team to go in and kill his wife and shoot up the place.

If the police are here to protect me from criminals, who will protect me from the police?

Saw the video last night on the Nashville news. First, dog was NOT a pittbull as was stated in the officer's report. Secondly, at the time the cop shot the dog, it was just running around in circles wagging it's tail playfully. At no time was the officer in danger.
